Strangely, I wasn't at all pumped by it. It's not that I'm not excited by a new Halo game - I am, although less so than perhaps I should be - but I feel that the trailer really fucked up the timing. No, listen:

We had a good fifteen seconds of shit all happening, to start with. That's not building to a crescendo; it's fucking boring.

After that, we got to see the chief for half a second before he took off and did some ludicrous block dodging so that he could stare dramatically out into the distance.

Sorry, but the more I think about it, the more I hate that trailer. The others have all been way better. Watch this, and see what I mean.

See? There's the opening bit: the two children talking in a peaceful setting. Then there's the big reveal, and we get a good long look at the chief, before he shows us an awesome new piece of tech and then goes and attacks a fucking armada of brutes.

I understand that the options for the Halo 4 trailer, without giving any of the plot away, were limited, but fuck, they really needed to at least get the timing right.

Even this: Was better than the Halo 4 trailer. We saw quite literally nothing, but they got the drama right, and the build up.

Most of my excitement for this game ruined by a shitty trailer. Bugger. :S

/edit
Not to mention that they had a tonne of incredible music at their disposal, but that they instead went with a soft and rather generic score.

I started out being very skeptical of it all. Why start another trilogy? I sense a Star Wars-like downward spiral as we hit 4, 5, and 6.

Then I said to myself: "It's Halo. You loved the last 6 games (Halo Wars counts) and you've become a diehard fan. So what if it's not Bungie? It's still going to be one hell of a ride."

Now I want to pre-order the Ludicrous Edition. I just hope Marty is still part of the Audio team for the Second Half.
This is essentially how I feel, though I didn't like 3. I'm going to give Halo's 4-6 a chance, but as I said before, I doubt there will be much difference aside from story progression.

It's 3 am here so it's a little hard for me to get my thoughts across the first try, so let me attempt it again.

Though in hindsight it was a bad example, it still stands for me in the sense that I don't expect much to change in the Halo formula and therefore I shouldn't be so excited as to believe it's the next coming of video game Jesus fucking Christ. I WILL give it a chance, but my hopes aren't up for anything new.

I laughed at all the people who honestly thought the series was over and cried because I secretly was hoping it was.

I'm actually surprised at how "meh" the overall reaction has been. I'm long past my Halo fanboy days (CoD4 turned me away from Halo), but I'm definitely interested in Halo 4. I have little faith that it will be good, looking at Reach and ODST. Those 2 games were made by a GOOD developer and they still were fairly mediocre.

All I want for Christmas 2012 is the Halo 2 Battle Rifle in Halo 4 multiplayer. Please, 343? Make it happen.

I guess after all those DNF threads it was Halo's turn...and does a lot of people actually squeal/scream when they watched the trailer? They do if the thread title of this thread and the others are to be believed.

Personally, I'm indifferent to the new trilogy. Didn't finish the first one, second one has never left it's case and I didn't love the third. ODST was okay and I quite enjoyed Reach but while I might end up buying the new trilogy, I won't be getting excited for it. And Bungie's replacement studio doesn't affect how I feel towards the game.

I'm kinda interested.
It might turn out well, but then again, it might collapse completely.
We will get the answer in due time, but until then, we can wait for the Halo: CE Anniversary Edition to come out and look GLORIOUS.

My one request to 343 Industrys is this, please don't end up calling it Halo 4, do what COD did when it launched the Modern Warfare Trilogy, add a subtitle or something, please.
Calling it Halo 4 is just contrived and lazy. That said, I will reserver judgement until I see gameplay, but colour be interested.

I remembered how all my friends were saying how Reach would actually be the last Halo game and how I'm proving them wrong >:D
Halo: Reach was, is and always will be the last Halo game. Done by Bungie that is.

Okay...I'm not sure if you're pissed off or not. I hope not, because I certainly didn't mean to offend you. I agree with what you're saying - you're not keeping your hopes up; that's indifference. Which is far better than following Yahtzee's suggestion of assuming everything is shit before anything is known about it.
Not angry, inflections in text is hard.

Well, considering it was a Halo game not being done by Bungie, I said "ugh". Otherwise, I would've said "neat".
Hah. The fact Bungie isn't making this is the best part, for me.

Wait, you want people's reactions, but not negative ones? So you just want people to join in on your parade.
I do believe the intent was to simply say, keep the topic clean and friendly and do not come in to simply say "IT F!CKING SUCKS @SS AND YOUR OPINION IS INFERIOR TO MINE". The person said nothing about having a negative opinion, just nobody come in with a bad attitude. The way peoples are comments are consistently misinterpreted makes me often wonder if it is done on purpose.

See what you've done, microsoft? Your insistence on stretching out franchises has turned respectable gamers into boring, normal people! shame on you.

OT: The announcement depressed me. I don't mind that they're making another Halo and may play it if the story seems interesting, but it just saddens me when orignality is swapped out for sequels like this...

I am dissapointed. It just... looks wrong and Cortana calling him John all of a sudden? And the jetpack!? And the fact it looks like they're trying to turn it into a non-stop action movie?

"New trilogy? Aw, they wouldn't announce a new Halo trilogy. Damn."

"WAKE UP, JOHN!"

"HOLY SHIT YES."

And then I came a little.

You two are way to pessimistic.
Quoted for truth. I knew it was the Halo 4 trailer before I watched it, but still, the progression is about right. I just don't look forward to all the inevitable cash cow accusations. As long as there is genuine inspiration behind it, it's not milking the cash cow, and I think (and really hope) this has inspiration behind it.

Admittedly, it is not the best Halo announcement trailer. That honor goes to Halo 3, and I think it always will. That trailer redefined epicness. I still watch it and get chills.

But regardless, it got me excited. I love Halo, and I look forward to a continuation of the story by the dedicated people at 343 (including most of the major minds behind Halo in the first place). My only real worry at this point is whether or not Martin O'Donnell will write the soundtrack.
