Well, at least they're going with the "actions are lounder than words" route - chances are this won't be another Other M. But IMO the issue with exploring MC's character further is that the series has reached a narrative conclusion.

Start tieing in the plot more with the books, Halo probably has the largest and most complex story in the industry, but due to the fact that games don't rely on the books, they come off as simple plot wise because the parts that ARE complex just aren't regonized by people who DON'T read the extended canon.

Just building the hype of course, but I'm interrested in Halo 4 nonetheless. Also, let's make a bold statement for the sake of bold statements: If Halo 4 shows MC's face, it's going to be a bad game, and if Halo 4 doesn't show MC's face, it's going to be a good game.

The only reason I missed the mc in halo reach was that they pretty much fucked up halo reach, the story was boring, the chars were pointless, the outcome was obvious, I could have made the story much more interesting, but then again I wouldn't have done a damn prequel, those are the dry hump of sequels. They didn't have to totally ignore the mc in reach, they could easily have had him show up and not been the main focus, no one in the game even mentioned him, he only showed up at the end if you held the control stick to the right when it showed the inside of the pillar of autumn, you could easily have had the chars mention something about an upgrade program that John was chosen for, hell they could have worked him into some of the earlier levels before he went in for upgrades.
But I would've have done a game about reach at all, I would have continued the story with the arbitor as a big focus, maybe throw in a few upgraded hell jumpers as something as they seek to put down the rest of the covenant, the cov just lost one of their giant space platform things, they still have homeworlds all over the place and those will probably need to be either taken out or pacified in some way.

Finally someone sees it other than me about how Master Chief is a great character. He doesn't need to have a 40 minute speech about his feelings toward the covenant. He may mostly use action, but he does have a personality. And a damn good one.

I don't think they should make him a deeper character. If they accidentally made the game good they might alienate some of their fans. They should just keep him as an emotionless robotic supersoldier.

He's been in 3 good games (4, if you count Reach). 3 more were good without him (2, if you count Reach).
I just realized....what are the enemies going to be for this game? Sentinels no doubt, maybe flood but what else? Long lost forerunners? New aliens?

Part of me kinda wishes they will go crazy and give it a full 'Metroid other M' treatment and mess up in a fantastically awful way.
Now I don't hate Halo. I don't like it either, it simply does not interest me, but there's something amusing in seeing people totally screw up a character (if you aren't invested in the character yourself).
Also we'd get all those fanboys flaming other fanboys who loved the old chief and then joining forces against Halo-haters.
I guess I'd be happy too if they did it in a very good way, to show how something like that should be done, though.
In any case I wouldn't play it myself, but might search for an LP if it was horrible in a funny way.
