Halo and CoD are fun

I'm sick of it. I just read a thread about overrated games that you haven't played and probably hate, and within 4 posts CoD and Halo were up. I'd say a majority of the posts afterward were "Halo/CoD because it had boring environments/characters/bad plot/generic gameplay...but I never played it but it sucks ass."

People, Halo 2 was the first FPS I ever got into. It's how I spent my weekends and summers with my friends: playing a game that we thought was fun. I know I've had many fun moments with the Halo games, and I doubt I'm the only one. I don't really care for CoD all that much, but I have played it several times (and had fun) and I think the hate on it is as unfair as the hate on Halo. That's why I'm lumping the two together.

Here's what I want you to do: I want you to tell me things about CoD and Halo that you liked. I want to read them all. Characters, events in the story, fun moments you had playing it with your friends, the design of the vehicles or structures, anything that you liked from either series! Tell me!

And if someone talks about something that you didn't like, I'm sure that someone just made a CoD or Halo hate thread that you can post it on if you really need to get it off your chest. I know this is an easy target for fights or assholes to break out on, but I want to keep this thread happy.

Never played CoD, but Halo has probably the best storyline I've seen in an FPS for a very long time, and I've played quite a few FPSs in my time. Yes, I'm going there. Fine, the story isn't massively great, especially compared to most non-FPS games, and is improved mainly through the books and graphic novels and anime. But nevertheless, it's pretty immersive, does a great job in the first few games of building a really interesting world and characters, and then expanding on that and including elements from the books in the later games, something that not a lot of games do nowadays. I enjoyed it greatly, and it has characters that you genuinely care about and want to know more of. As far as FPSs go, Halo is pretty damn awesome...

I like CoD (MW, MW2 and BlOps on PS3 in my case). I like the multiplayer community (I haven't heard any screaming 14 year olds with weeks of online time), I like the weapons, I like the feel of the game, I like the maps, I like killstreaks, I like my K:D and loadouts, I like the options, I like the game music (that's what really sets it apart from Bad Company IMO), I like the campaigns, I like the characters (Price!). Yeah, I like CoD.

Oh, and Halo of course. I must say I only played Combat Evolved for PC, but I liked it better with every playthrough. Great setting, great story, great music, great weapons and enemies. Good game.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

What I get the feeling people hate the most isn't the games themselves, but the people who play them.

Personally I thought CE and Halo 2 were some of the best stories I've ever played through but Halo 3 lost too much of the Covenant's storyline which was much more interesting and unique than the humans. Reach was pretty good but they retconned stuff that I already liked better in the book "The Fall of Reach" to make it more appealing to those who didn't have any knowledge of the story outside of the games.

So what I say, Halo games: pretty good story. Halo Universe: amazing story.

Good for you, but I still hate the fuck out of the obsession with realism they inspire.

Hipsters.... but I love Halo, always been there for me, but CoD, there's always flaws(MW- 3 Frags+Sonic Boom+ Martydom or WaW-MP40w/jug) but the past 2 have had serious game breaking flaws. MW2- OMA+DC+N00Btubes, commando, UMP45, BO- Famas, ak74u) But I've always enjoyed IW campaigns and 3arcs zombies.

Neither side of the "Halo and Cod are Good/Bad" are correct because the quality of the experience that the game provides is subjective and down to individual tastes.

If we could just get over this fact and move on we could save ourselves thousands of hours of joyless toil and let the escapist have other kinds of 60 page threads.

I enjoy most of the CoD games such as CoD 2,3,4, and Black Ops. Mostly for the multiplayer post Cod3 but I admit CoD4 and Black ops had good single players. Now with Halo, don't even get me started: I love Halo. I have played all of them and I think they're a shining example of great music, simple yet fun gameplay, and Halo has a ton of cool game modes like Firefight and Forge that no other game has (okay, it is like Horde from Gears 2 but that was awesome as well).

Liking Halo really depends on the kind of person you are and it's not like your a bad/good person if you hate/love it. I know a few people that absolutely hate Halo yet they had never played it *faceplam*

This. Although i like CoD(never owned an Xbox, never played Halo), i hate the fact that every FPS that isn't a bland, grey copy of it gets pulled down by people screaming it's not realistic enough.

Other than that, CoD is a good enough game

Before this starts to flame up, I'm gonna say that Halo was the second or third FPS I played. Doom and Marathon before it. What made it so fun for me though was the combination between regen health and constant health. Like on Keyes, you could rush and rush when you have full shields and health but when you have one health and just your shields, you gotta change your strategy. I loved it. To name any of the memories of Halo that I remember there are too many to name. Since it came out my brother and I run through it on Legendary atleast once every year, and we do such ridiculous stuff.

Warthog launching, running through the levels with just a plasma pistol, killing each other, freaking out cutscenes on Assault on the Control room. (We once had an epic battle inside the final area, brought a hunter AND rammed the Chief with a ghost so make the most amazing cutscene ever.) Seriously we just love that game.

It is pretty obvious if you can play the same level over and over in a game and never get bored, and that was how i felt while playing Halo 1. I have literally played "The Silent Cartographer" so many times I have lost count, and I still come back for more. Don't know why, I just do. Honestly for me, Halo is a lot of fun, as is Call of Duty, they just seem a tad stagnant now. But hey, to each his own.

I'll never been the biggest fan of the main multiplayer, but I will give credit where credit is due. Halo's campaign and Firefight mode are fun as long as your friends are in the same room, and MW2's Spec Ops really should've been a lot bigger. It should've been the new mode in every game, and released new missions in DLC. Alas...

I completely agree, it's just that hate has a monopoly on these two right now and I want to even things out a bit.

I like the refined-ness of the weapons in the newer CoDs. I suppose the set pieces and level design are good in the campaign, and a number of the multiplayer maps are quite good. But that's about it, really.

And honestly, there's not a single major redeeming feature I can find in Halo. I'll accept that some people may find it a relatively good game, but I still don't understand the buckets of praise it gets.

Halo: Great universe, competitive balance, excellent campaigns. I love all the little details they cram into the games, like the little sparrows nesting on The Pit, or the all the hidden easter eggs. Excellent customization, and Forge is a lot of fun once you get into it and figure out its little quirks. Matchmaking is buttery smooth on nearly any connection, though I do wish they would allow for dropping in and out of games in progress, at least on some gametypes.

Favorite moment: From Halo 3, on the mission "The Ark". The Spirit of Fire flies in low to drop off reinforcements for Chief....really really low. The sheer "Oh crap" moment of watching something as big as a cruiser fly down to just a few yards off the ground, pushing away everything around it, is in incredible.

Call of Duty: You can tell its a real labor of love for both IW and Treyarch. No matter how many people declare its being "whored out", every time I see a CoD game all I see is the ridiculous amount of time and effort put into polishing those games to a mirror sheen. Best FPS control scheme on the market today, too, plus the engine itself runs so fast and smooth that its hard to go back to anything else after a CoD binge. Also, its so damn consistent. All the games are the same, but I know that when I sit down to play some CoD multiplayer, I'm gonna lose a few hours that day, regardless of the game.

Favorite moment: The first mission of CoD 4, on the tanker. Watching it pitch back and forth, the tense fighting below deck, and the frantic escape at the end are still exciting even today. A close runner-up is the opening mission of Black Ops.

Your're kiding me right? Halo has players jumping meters into the air, it takes a ton of bullets to bring down another player, and just about everything about it revolves around non realism. To be specific: look at the human guns, they don't look like any gun that exists today and they are varied to serve a simple purpose: this gun is automatic, this gun is semi automatic, this gun is a rocket luancher. See what I'm getting at? Super powerful space marine? Those don't exist in real life, neither do aliens, or spaceships, or plasma weapons, or basically everything else in the game.

However if your talking about CoD then I'm with you on that 100% (although it's just supposed to be fun)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that you are entitled to your own opinion and I'm not trying to get you to admit Halo is good becuase everyone has different likes and dislikes. Agree to disagree right?

People like what they like. Some people feel they're opinion is more factual than other peoples, and thus can't understand how anyone would like a game they didn't like. I personally enjoyed all the Halos and every COD till MW2, which I hate with a burning passion. The one thing I actually hate about Black OPs now is its fanbase, which if my school is a good example of, consists mostly of jocks and "Bros" who seem to enjoy the game in the way a lonely mother enjoys Farmville.

But in the end it all boils down to opinion.

I hate it with all my might because it's so cool and nonconformist to be just like everyone else and hate popular things! Yeah!

I've only played CoD, CoD 2, CoD 3, CoD 4, CoD 5 and CoD 6. Only on single-player. Only on PC. I enjoyed them.
