I enjoyed CoD 2, haven't played any of the others. I also really enjoy Halo, but I haven't played Reach.

Of course they're fun. That's why they have so much hate, because they don't try to be epically intelligent. You just enjoy blasting the shit out of various enemies. This appeals to the lowest common denominator as well as other people. Since hating on the plebs is considered cool these days among the self proclaimed elite, Halo and CoD get a lot of hate.

Good for you, but I still hate the fuck out of the obsession with realism they inspire.
...Did you just say that Halo inspires realism? This is a game that has a gun which shoots pink, explosive needles.

Oh I enjoy this game that means no one else is allowed to not enjoy it because differing opinions are gay.
Okay, enough with these types of comments. Everyone has different opinions but it's hard to say Halo is bad because of it's great music, great multiplayer, the unique story and gameplay, the cool game modes, and it's popularity. Yeah it has flaws but so does every game in the world and Halo's flaws are so small that if they are the reason you hate the game than thats just sad. On the other hand, the flaw could be so big that a person may not even want to play it: "It's a FPS... I hate FPS's so I don't want to play it becuase I already know I'm going to hate it". That is where the line is drawn between "It's bad" and "It's bad because it's not what I'm into".

Also, I would like to point out that if a game's fanbase is composed of douchebags then that is not the games fault(unless it's Madden).

I knew this was going to happen, so I'm going to try to stop it asap. I've already read plenty of threads about how having an opinion means nothing to others when it comes to this. I know some people think they logically are right in hating these games and some people think they are logically wrong in doing so. I don't care about that. That's not the topic of this thread ("Halo and CoD are fun" is really just an attention getter).

I just want to hear specific reasons on why people enjoyed Halo and CoD. I've really enjoyed reading people's recollections on these two games (Even the simple "I just liked them.") and want to keep hearing them. That's it.

Halo may be unrealistic but it's still epic as hell. The first time I loaded up Reach, I jizzed in my pants. That opening scene on its own is the definition of epic. I don't like to use the word epic much either as I feel it's overused... but Halo IS EPIC! That seems like the best word to describe it. That is all.

I'm sick of it. I just read a thread about overrated games that you haven't played and probably hate, and within 4 posts CoD and Halo were up. I'd say a majority of the posts afterward were "Halo/CoD because it had boring environments/characters/bad plot/generic gameplay...but I never played it but it sucks ass."

People, Halo 2 was the first FPS I ever got into. It's how I spent my weekends and summers with my friends: playing a game that we thought was fun. I know I've had many fun moments with the Halo games, and I doubt I'm the only one. I don't really care for CoD all that much, but I have played it several times (and had fun) and I think the hate on it is as unfair as the hate on Halo. That's why I'm lumping the two together.
Amen, brother. The Halo hate on this forum has mostly died off, but in practice it's just been replaced with CoD hate. People will enter a dicussion thread about what we like in CoD/Halo just to explain how much they hate the series, which is so annoying. I don't like Final Fantasy at all, but I just stay out of FF-related threads, I don't run in there complaining about how I don't like it. If I did I'd probably be (quite rightly) reprimanded, but for some reason people who do it to CoD/Halo threads get away with it.

OT: I like Halo because it's nice simple fun. I can jump into a level and start shooting some Aliens in the head and enjoy myself without much effort. I like CoD because it's intense - bullets flying everywhere, explosions up and down the level, and equally, it's fun. Also, I love CoD's multiplayer, the customisation and fast-paced fun makes for good times.

Didn't you know that it's cool to hate popular things and only stuff from the indie sector or with some deep artistic merit is worth playing?? Why do you think Mojang is kicking ass in the popularity contest thing?

The Escapist is kind of the hipster community of the gaming world, once something goes mainstream it automatically sucks (apparently).

Well, I've played most CoD except Black Ops and some early ones, that and again and again I've given Halo the benefit of the doubt and bought the games.

And the results are, I think they mostly suck ass.

Sorry to bust your bubble....=/

Unfortunately, you have picked what is quite possibly the WORST of the Halo games as an example. Halo Wars was better. And I've played all the Halo games, so I think I would know about that.

What I like about Halo: everything! And anyone who says the story sucks normally ends up in a ditch.

Halo: Combat Evolved. The Silent Cartographer. The level was a whole fucking island. Nothing amazing now, but at the time it blew my mind.

If you can't remember how amazing this game looked in 2001, and how much it was ahead of everything else (including what was then current on the PC), then you're too young to criticise it now based on less than impressive sequels.

Halo was the reason you had an (original) XBox. Sure, I love my weird and interesting games (that some other people might call 'art games', as if 'art' only describes a subset of games, where really it describes the entire medium), but Halo got me into properly into console gaming. CoD is maybe the same sort of thing for a new generation; I don't have the same level of affection for it but do like a bit of Zombies on Kino Der Toten.

Really? You are complaining about CoD/Halo hate on this forum/any forum to be honest? I'm sorry but you really have to man up if that annoys you. I am not saying it is right and I don't mean to be insensitive but every single mainstream game on this site and every other site gets hate. This is the internet. People are highly opinionated and like to shout about things they hate. Making threads about it rarely helps. You don't see me making threads about people hating Final Fantasy games and particularly VII and JRPGs in general do you? Anyway that little rant aside.

OT: I like in CoD 2 where there were no killstreaks. I liked the Hardcore mod in CoD4 and the fact that you could spawn with the weapon you want. It should of made people auto assign for fucking once. I liked the customisation options before it became over saturated with weapons. Basically everything CoD was before MW2. I don't like the newer ones for different reason so no need to go nostalgia on me it is more than nostalgia.

Although I haven't played much of 3 and haven't played anything past that, I had fun playing the Halo games with a good friend of mine. Although it was like clockwork that after we were playing for about 30 min or more, the faffing about would begin, i.e. we would start trying to kill each other. He always started it and I always tried to finish the level.

There was one time that I tried to hi-jack the flying Covenant vehicle (not ghost) from him and he promptly bailed out seconds before he steered it into a mountain with me still on the outside. Good times.
