I don't see why people hate the campaigns in these games. Granted, 2 ended on a cliffhanger and 3 left open the possibility of a sequel that may/will never happen, but other than that I've always found the campaigns enjoyable.
But you see, the cliffhanger doesn't matter anymore. You can just get Halo 3 straight away and play it the moment you finish Halo 2. And if you're annoyed that it didn't explain anything that went on on Earth, get Halo: ODST.Polaris19 said:2's was amazing...right up until Chief says.....OhJohnNo said:I disagree. Halo 2's campaign is far better than 3's, which is saying something.Zhukov said:The single player compaign in Halo 2 is complete arse.
The rest of the Halo games are ok, with occasional detours into "pretty good" territory.
Reach still has the best one though.
"I'm finishing this fight"
The most annoying, angering moment ever. Period.
Reach's campaign has my favourite missions though.
Fix'd. But seriously, what was so bad about ODST?arconic said:just stay away from the train wreck that Halo 3 is and you'll be fine
ODST was the start of Bungie's throwback to the original Combat Evolved which culminated in Reach (which I'm sure you will notice also took a rather large note from ODST in that you have a team with actually characters rather than faceless marines who serve as cannon fodder).XelaisPWN said:Also, don't buy ODST unless you get it for cheaps. Game sucks.
Quite right. I never care for games that are recommended to me based on their multiplayer.Ranorak said:I am, however, not looking for a multiplayer shooter.

The Halo games have largely good singleplayer. The story is roughly average, but is told very well (especially in Reach, which you really should get - the campaign is brilliant, I'm loving it in my second playthrough on Heroic). The gameplay is what sells it, though - the enemies are smart (again, especially in Reach) but most importantly, the game rarely forces you down one particular strategy to complete any mission. The levels are often very open (as in, you fight your way past one section and can go back there later if you want) and there are multiple ways to get past the enemies you encounter (I first noticed this on the Halo 3 level The Ark on Legendary, where I found myself trying out several different strategies against the enemies to see which one I liked best). Reach's campaign is once again the best example of this - indeed, it's the best of the Halo games, but the others are definitely no slouch either.Ranorak said:Well, thanks you all for your opinions.

And it seems like I'll be scanning the local video game farm for 1, 2 and 3 soon.
Halo 1 has best story, Halo 2 has a great campaign and the best multiplayer maps imo, Halo 3 is an amalgamation of the two but as good as neither, though it does come with a large graphics jump and some new features. ODST is a waste of time unless you play online because it has all the H3 expansion packs, campaign is mediocre but firefight can be fun. Don't have Reach yet 'cause student.Ranorak said:Seeing so many Halo topics, and so much praise (and of course whining) about Halo Reach, I think I might have caught the bug.
I played The original Halo, once.
For about an hour.
I got on the ring-thing and had to save some fellow marines, but the crappy vehicle section made me lose interest fast.
However, I heard that it gets better after a while. Especially the later instalments.
So, is it too late to start getting into Halo.
Is it worth getting Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST and Reach?
i would also like to ask this. i mean it was nice to play a guy you couldnt go up and just meelie throgh the whole game with (yes you can do that on normal and hard, ledgendary not so much in the other halo games save reach of courseThe Rookie Gamer said:Fix'd. Most people seem to ***** about is not being master chief, and while I like the big guy for saving the universe and all, his story is finished, so it was good they got new blood to focus on.ecoho said:i would also like to ask this. i mean it was nice to play a guy you couldnt go up and just meelie throgh the whole game with (yes you can do that on normal and hard, ledgendary not so much in the other halo games save reach of courseThe Rookie Gamer said:Fix'd. Now please understand that i love halo and i play them all regualarly but i can admit halo has a very limited story unless you read the books. now we get odst which is by far the best game of the serise (save reach of course
it was all good and if you didnt like it i just cant understand why so please try to explane it to me.
I agree with this completely, and say to the OP, that he should definitely try all of the games all the way through. If you're unsure, rent them or borrow them from a friend. If you like them, then for heaven's sake give Bungie your money and buy themk3v1n said:in my humblest opinion, yes, you should try them out,I enjoyed all of them although the 3rd's one ending was a bit meh and ODST was too dark for my liking(not dark as in, scary but dark as in...it was always really dark)
No, I quite agree with you. I feel as if people who say ODST is nothing more than DLC probably haven't played it.Trivun said:I agree with this completely, and say to the OP, that he should definitely try all of the games all the way through. However, I do have to disagree with the disliking Halo 3: ODST for being 'dark'. Using the VISR system to see, I actually really liked that aspect. The whole point of the Mombasa Streets section is that you are alone, trying to find your team. You're outnumbered, outgunned, having to creep around. And it's a dark night which means in a real situation you'd be jumping at shadows, trying desperately to get through the night in one piece. It was atmospheric, and I liked that whole idea. I'll admit it was slightly annoying in some of the alleys at times, but overall it really made the game feel awesome. That being said, I'm one of the 'suckers' who felt the game deserved full price and ranks it as a full game worthy of being classed alongside the main series, rather than just being a spin-off. So maybe that's just me...![]()
Skip straight to Reach I'd say. It's a prequel so your not missing out on any story and the others feel really outdated now. Sorry Halo fans but it's the truth.Ranorak said:Seeing so many Halo topics, and so much praise (and of course whining) about Halo Reach, I think I might have caught the bug.
