Why should I care?

'Cause you weren't there when I was scared?

Shitty list, but I don't care. Fuck the majority.

same here, that game was very diverse, you could chainsaw some baddies by yourself to kill some time, do some co op with a friend who was over or over live, or have some good multiplayer going either in the first one, or in horde mode in gears2

i would like to agree on the cover system, it works really well wit the third person strategy part of the game, some people hate how the cover system is an actual system, and that you can't just run behind the cover, which i think opposite as its awesome especially for looking/gunning around corners

Wow, Gears of war is actually up there. I'm pretty pleased about that. Although I can foresee a lot of hate over some of the numbers.
thank you for making me feel like not the only person out there who likes that game. most people i have seen post on here call it the most mindless and average shooter they have played, which its actually quite different then most shooters and its one of my favorite game(s) to do co op

OT: the list isn't HORRIBLE, but obviously its biast and subjective, so i wont care really, as some it is pretty good
Ya, the game get's a lot of hate from some gamers, I honestly can't see why though. The game, in my opinon, was one of the best to do the cover feature perfectly! The Campaign was great to play with a friend and the Multiplayer, for the most part, is balanced and fair, keeping all the good weapons in reach of both teams.

I loved the first and it was the reason I got Xbox live to begin with. The game has always been awesome to me.
I hate to seem the curmudgeon, but most of that hate is due to popularity and nerd culture.

I agree. Whilst Half Life is by all means a brilliant fps, working despite, or more likely because of its silent protagonist, so is Halo.

Allow me to be painfully frank for a moment, if Valve really cared about gamers more than money like so many people wish to believe, where the hell is Episode 3?
At least Bungie releases their bloody games.

Perhaps I don't agree with Halo being the number one game franchise, but I can see why it was voted there, I might even say it deserves the spot.
You win a cookie for this

And Mother isn't anywhere on there?

All in all, not too bad. I am in agreement with a lot of their picks.
Granted, I disagree with a fair share (Runescape) as well.

Its probably because most of the voters are not from Japan, and the only Mother game to come out in America was made 20 years ago and does not share the title, few people know that game, and even fewer know about anything other then Earthbound from it.
Still, with all of the exposure the series has gotten over the past 9 years via the incredibly popular Smash Bros franchise, not even regarding the rather numerous (and [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUFIO6GtThk] vocal [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmHvEQFkEQg&feature=related]) fanbase stateside, and the amount of people who took notice and promptly raged over Mother 3's Eastern-only release, I'm surprised the series hasn't scored somewhere on there, as it's certainly far from being unknown by gamers.
The fanbase in the US is undeniably strong, and as mentioned earlier, quite vocal at that.

Again, that's not to say I'm mad, just surprised.

The entire list is wrong, but some games deserve to be on it if not in their spot.
But really, Metal Gear, Sports games, Killzone, WoWCraft, Pokeymanns, Call of Booty, License games, and Half Life?

Ok... Why is Halo the top spot? I am not trying to flame, it did sell the original Xbox and started a trend in shooters for both online multiplayer and limited weapon capacity. However, how is it more notable then say Mario, who revolultionized platforming, invented things that would be staples in games, showed how to not only convert from 2D to 3D, but also how to make a 3D game period. How about Half-Life? How about Zelda? How about Metroid? How about Doom (which wasn't even on this list)? They all have had a bigger impact on gaming, more memorable games, and a more lasting impact then Halo has on the industry. I am just asking.

this is going on # of sales of course, which doesn't serve the games any justice. half-life was brilliant and is being undermined b/c GTA and GH had at least 5 huge games.
And fail. Another person, once again, commenting while not even reading the article...
and double fail, b/c i'm not arguing the point, i'm just through out my opinion and a good reason to why they scored it like that. plus, my younger brother bought that inaccurate video game guinness book for some reason and i read it.
