In the book didnt they say that ODST couldnt do certain things, like jump as high or flip vehicles? Then why were they able to do these things in the game? You'd think they would follow the script they had already set right?

They couldn't jump as high as spartans, they could still jump relatively high though.

The reason they didn't follow the established canon is simple: fans would be annoyed if their Warthog ended up upside-down and couldn't be flipped upright. As for the jumping and melee strength, both were decreased, if slightly.

In the game you couldn't jump quite as high... which was annoying when it cam to trying to jump up to other levels...
although I can't say much about the flip vehicles thing... I suppose they just went with what was more useful instead of what was more realistic.

That kinda sucks. I went into ODST thinking it would be a bit more challenging than other Halo games.

No, it was just a Halo game with a slightly more interesting plot that you didn't care about anyways because it was a Halo game.

To quote an employee from Bungie: It's a f**** video game.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure they changed it in the game to make it more "playable".
