...Yea "Orbital Drop Ship Troopers" doesnt make sense. Because a drop ship is supposed to get you from orbit to surface, and if theyre all orbiting ... does that mean you just sit in a drop ship and orbit stuff? That sounds... pointless.

Indeed so, soldiers being stationed on a dropship in orbit. What they actually are are TROOPERS DROPPED from a cruiser in ORBIT, and the landing is so intense that it forces the enemies to scatter.

I know, I know, sorry if it seemed that way. I forgot the first part of the post. I'll fix it.

I disagree with a lot of your points, I actually found the campaign to be quite descent, short yes but not so insanely short as to be called a rip off. It took me some time to manuever around and combined with the exploring and moments of replaying it took me roughly eight hours though that's just an estimation. I still maintain that it was worth the full price, the entire Halo 3 multiplayer expansion (which I desperatley needed as I lack Xbox live) combined with the great social fun of Firefight and a campaign that while short, had some great ideas of design mixed in and some well thought out storytelling devices thrown in as well. All in all I must disagree with some of your points, I found it to be a much more enjoyable experiance and I live in Australia... I had to pay $100 for this game. But you know what I liked it regardless of how much I payed for it. This is a good game if you ask me... no masterpiece but I really can't understand the really angry hate that's being spewed around here... like the kind of anger I'd expect from someone who just watched the game burn their house and murder their siblings which I honestly do not get. I loved this game, as a Halo fan and as just a gamer there really is something about it that just works... it adds some new stuff for the series but keeps what made it good in the first place. The biggest switch being seeing an approaching enemy force and wondering if you can afford to fight back.

Seriously it funtioned well, had a nice sound and the story was interesting as was the side story and the gameplay was essentially Halo... even in Firefight there were enough things that kept it feeling uniquely Halo and thus different to the other modes.

Also you can configure the crouch controls in the 'options' menu with 'toggle crouch'... that's what I did and it worked there.

Meh. The review didn't really sound off with me and seemed pretty bland (the metaphors were also forced and uninspired) - if you're trying to be like a certain other reviewer then it isn't working out, if you're not, I would suggest investing some time in defining a different style altogether.

You're a good writer, don't get me wrong. It just seems like you're trying to rely on the inevitable controversy among fans and non-fans to bring this review forward. The whole piece sounds as though you hated it going in and numerous small mistakes (as outlined by previous posters) shows lack of care.

P.S. - All you people arguing and being passive-aggressive might as well be arguing over whether vanilla or chocolate is the superior ice-cream flavour. At the end of the day, they're -still- both ice-cream.

GET THE FUCK BACK UNDER YOUR BRIDGE TROLL.
OT: I only got halo odst because it came bundled with the 360 elite for a cheap price, and while I thought it was more fun than halo 3 because dying is actually a possibility, It was a very short campaign, walking through the city loses its charm after the first time and even though they tried to return to the halo 1 type weapons, I can't help but feel incredibly dumbfounded how an ASSAULT RIFLE does not do more damage or has as good of a range as a SMG.
I was also one of very few people to get the most content outof odst also since I never had any of the map packs that you needed to pay for.
I give it a 6.5/10

Interesting...and yet your profile displays only a PlayStation tag - what's your Xbox Live gamertag, seeing as how you own ODST...?

ITSH A SONYFANBOY CONSHPIRACHY YOU GET EM BUDDY yeaaa no.

Serious moment: I tried Halo 3 and found it bland and unfun from both a gameplay and sound design perspective. Is the original Halo: Combat Evolved better?

No, I'm sorry but what...?

The original was certainly more innovative, as for better - thats personal opinion, though if you don't like Halo 3 I doubt you'll like any of the other games since the core mechanics are no doubt similar...

Every single review/thread about ODST gets the S wrong basically.

Every single review/thread about ODST has some person who comes in and corrects the people.

Nothing changes...mainly because nobody gives a damn, thank you.

I like it and I think it is a very good deal, seeing that it comes with every Halo 3 map on a seperate disc.

ODST was an amazing game with great gameplay, characters and weapons. The campaign was epic and extremely fun. Firefight is also very fun and addicting.

ODST is also a GOOD VALUE. It comes with 2 discs that includes the following: New campaign, Firefight, theater, forge, custom games and ALL the multiplayer maps with 3 NEW ones. It also has the REACH beta.

Anyone that just rents it and forgets about it is a fucking idiot.
Wow, a little uncalled for there?

I disagree, the lack of matchmaking for firefight was disappointing, and the campaign was a bit too short. And it doesn't really matter if it came with the maps when you already had them.

a cut and paste knock-off of Gears 2's Horde mode
because horde mode was so obviously the first mode to have a "survive against waves of enemies" mode.

aside from that, a good review
