Halo: playing as any race

hello all :) i just been toying with the idea of a halo game in which you could play as all of the races in multiplayer. I wanted to know what other people thought of the idea.

Obviously theres somt balancing to be done, for instance playing as a grunt would not be very fun exept to laugh at yourself dying but what if you were to play as a group of 5 grunts? imagine throwing 5 stickies at some one? and each grunt being able to have a differant weapon.
now i think they'd have to be made less accurate for the simple amount of fire power they have even if they are easy to kill having 5 needlers in your face would be a bit much.

a similar approach could be appled to other races such as jackles but only playing as a pair of them. they could have 2 snipers at long range but they are very vunrable without shields.

i have ideas for other races but im ramling on a bit and i wanted to hear your ideas on it, if you think it wouldnt work or ideas for how it could work i wanna know :)

so what do you guys think?

My idea?
Halo: Battlefront.
Humans, Covenant, Flood.
All have their own infantry and vehicles.
Hell, if you really wanted a fourth team, perhaps the Forerunners.
Historical battles: Forerunners vs Flood. Modern battles: Humans vs Covenant.
So like Star Wars: Battlefront, but Halo.

thanks :) i was thinking a battlefront type thing. not sure how playing as the flood would go but it could work, and i dont think we know enough about to forerunners to make them a playable race, unless you want to play as sentinals

Me and my friends had a similar idea. If you could mix and match teams, it'd be cool. a fourth could be the human insurrectionists, or depending on when it's set, the elites.

Battlefront is awesome, so that idea has potential. Obviously you'd need to insert lots more variety into the factions, and I'm not sure anybody would play as the Flood (everyone hates them too much).

TBH I can't see how you'd balance playing as a grunt, and really, controlling lots of them would be hard to do unless it was on PC. And I don't play shooters on my PC.

well i was thinking 3rd person but keeping the controls simple if you were to control them like just one unit it could work, not like you need to make each button control a differant grunt

That would be awesome. I love the SW:BF games, though i did give away my SW:BF2 copy to a relative...And i miss it so much!

And i like your idea to OP.

hunters would be fun but their gunna have to be pretty slow to counter their firepower and armour

i think the yanme'e would be good against them because i was thinking of making them fast, able to clim walls and fly/hover for short distances. While they would only be able to use single handed weapons they should be very hard to hit.

possibly also able to call in a swarm to aid them for in one location (bearing in mind you'd be playing as a single shielded drone rather than a group)

Grunts: ability to double-chuck grenades to compensate for inability to melee, have to allow for armor/shields to compensate for being controlled
Jackals: not much improvement needed, except they run faster and can carry shields, can melee with them
Drones: would be madly broken, do not include unless you give them little health
Brutes: like Elites, but become stronger and faster when shields are down at the cost of weapon accuracy
Hunters: don't change anything, seems well enough balanced.

Sound like it'll work?

We need those guys making that black mesa thing, they seem to be good at stuff.

other races should have similar ablititys but trying to avoid over balancing which drives me crazy lol

yeah that was the idea for drones easy to kill but very hard to hit, more of diversonary tactics and hit and run for them but i agree with most of the rest of the stuff

i think the brutes should have that beserking thing as an ability they can choose to use. as they wouldnt get to play up the advantage of the stronger melee most the time if they have to have no shields and would probably just be 1 shot but and elite or spartan

simple, dont treat them like 5 charactures, make them controlled like a single person but like i said less accurate to deal with the whole "5 guns aimed at one person" thing

Grunts are too small, Hunters are too big. Stuff like that. It wouldn't work for TDM/Objective multiplayer. It'd have to be more like Left 4 Dead.
