Halo is a fun game. Its a FPS and a damn good one, if you like FPS's and think Halo sucks im guessing you dont have an xbox :D why not just say Half-Life sucks? Why because you sound like an idiot. Any serious FPSer cant hate Halo... you dont have to think its the greatest thing since sliced bread but seriously its pathetic to hate something just because its popular. I mean edgy... its "edgy" to hate something popular.
Very true. I don't hate Halo, I just never enjoyed it, and yet I love Half-Life 2 and also the Resistance games.

I like it.

I was fairly alarmed everytime the flood arrived in the first game, and if Bungie manage to make the elites genuinely hard and scary, that would mean something else than the original Master Chief tank gameplay. I haven't played ODST, but I guess that's different in that regard.

A change in atmosphere would only serve the series well, in my opinion. Combat Evolved had a masterful atmosphere, but the two next were slightly worse in that manner, so a different feel with the game would be awesome.

You all have to admit, the very first time you played Halo: CE, at the very beginning, you were scared. Even if it was just a little. You had no idea wtf to do and you had no weapon and shit was blowing up all around you.

You were scared. It's okay to admit it.

I look forward to them being able to do that again.
I do admit that running through thinking "I just fucking started! Where's my tutorial?!" was kinda fun. Also, I miss having a health bar, which as I've seen in screenshots of Reach, is coming back. (I'm not completely sure on this.)

Halo? Scary? i love the games but the whole horror thing they never got right.
The first time i played the first game i was a little scared of the flod but when i realised that they were even easier then the normal enemyes they stopped being scary. And the game never got scary after that.

Any human who does not yet fear and respect the might of the Sangheili will learn to very soon....

*ahem*

Well in retrospect one of the reasons I liked the Halo series is that I do not think they were trying to make the aliens scary, in fact I think it was kind of lighthearted in some respects. However the notion of having them speak entirely in alien tongue and being depicted in a darker light does certainly give them the edge of 'bad guy' and that would be an interesting turn for the series.
That said, I kind of felt like the entire point of the Arbiter in Halo 2 was to cement the fact that really the Aliens and the Humans weren't really that different and to give off the idea that they were individuals with personalities not just a single minded killer devil spawn. In some ways I feel that would be messed up by having them depicted as unknowable and evil in Reach.
But still, one can only wait and see.

Absolutely not a Halo hater, it's alright, I've played them they were fun... Now that's out the way, scary?

What planet were you on where you thought Halo was ever scary, there's nothing dark, atmospheric or even startling in the whole Franchise it's just a straight forward run and gun.

If they were trying to be scary they did it all wrong cause I never even twigged that it was trying to be and with Dead Space 2 on the cards if they want Halo Reach to be scary they'll have some stiff competition.

Scary, I hold judgment. But they have a secure hold to make it HARDCORE! Especially if the rumor about this being a classed based game are true.

I never liked Halo because of the dumb grunts and their comments when getting shot. It always made me think that the Halo story shouldn't be taken seriously, sorta like a Duke Nukem game but not nearly as badass in anyway while trying to add Aliens to the mix. I believe this will be a positive change (at least for myself) but I won't get my hopes up (especially when Aliens Vs Predator come out this year) ^_^

On a minor note Halo also made me think of all the good games/movies that it rips off I could watch/play instead of playing it.

I feel the same way. I like messing around in MP with some friends, but I don't really love the story or gameplay. Still, I don't think it sucks. But I do love the Half-Life series, and other FPS's.

Maybe scary is the wrong word to use. But I think Reach is looking to make the Covenant seem like an actual threat to the human race, as opposed to the brightly coloured aliens fought in the previous games.

I'm not a huge fan of the Halo series but I can appreciate the fun of it. The fact that they were not scary never bothered me - I don't really think it's fitting with a game like Halo to have loads of scary enemies all of the time. Also, the grunts exploding with confetti? That was the only bit about ODST that I REALLY liked.

Maybe it's just to make them more... you know... alien? I know they were humanised a great deal in the later Halos, but this is earlier in the storyline. Remember this game sees them annihilate a planet, they were very much the big bad at this point in the storyline, and I think it's a creative change to reflect that.

The Flood weren't scary, just bloody annoying. But I agree with this turn of events. It should be very interesting on how they go about them now.

Hopefully no Flood in this one. I hate the Flood.

If scary was to mean in terms of difficulty then when playing the game on Legendary, fighting against a bunch of elites was "scary" in the sense I felt I'd die if I just ran out and blasted. So from a point of view of risking my life in combat because the enemy has tactics that can kill me then the new halo game kind of gets there, it looks like Jackals have improved armour and that each unit is apparently much harder to kill on the rumour mill.

Based on the story rumour mills, the Covenant really want to wipe out humans from reach which means Xerxes style massive armies.

So on Legendary fearing to stick your head out as an army of Covenant approach, yeah could be scary.

Why is Ghost from Modern Warefare 2 in Halo:Reach?
Haha, thats what I thought. Either that one of the feller of Army of Two. Also, how the hell does he/she/it see through that crap?

OT:Who can take them seriously? Especially when the grunts see you, jump 3 feet into the air exclaiming "Waaaaaaah!"
