So I've spent the last few hours since all the relatives left my house playing reach with a few mates, we usually quit pretty frequently when the connection sucks and when we muck around and betray teammates, get booted. But today we had just finished playing 3 full games in a row and my friend got the message "you have quit too many games and have been banned from matchmaking for 10 minutes." Now we had just FINISHED our 3rd game in a row. Seriously what the fuck? It's not bad enough that I can't leave a game when the connection sucks or it's 4v1 for fear of being banned, but now I have to be worried of getting banned even when I finish a game? How can anyone deny this game is not broken?

The spawning in the game is horrible, how often do I have to spawn in the line of fire - even in team based modes - it's absolutely ridiculous, not to mention the original spawns in SWAT on maps like pinnacle where one team has total advantage and the other just gets raped from the start. Don't even get me started on the betrayal and booting system which seems to be completely random - just whenever the game feels like offering it up to boot.

Now I've had the game since release and I have the full 1000GS for it but I really could not get over that original point of my friend being banned when he had just completed a game. Seriously. What. The. Fuck.

EDIT: Also why can I get banned for quitting a game of Score Attack? Who does me quitting a game of SCORE ATTACK WHICH IS ONE PLAYER AFFECT?! NO ONE! It's stupid how if for whatever reason I quit a game I was playing by myself I can get banned - will I get banned for quitting campaign now?

I have to admit, the spawning on the game is terrible, but it seems that there's something you're not telling us about being banned. Not to mention, you sort of deserve a nasty surprise for being a dick.

Well betraying teammates and getting booted too many times can get you banned. I really like the system, but only when it doesn't boot me for accidental betrayals.

Have you given any consideration that these hugely popular games that are going through hundreds of matches every minute might possibly make a mistake once in a while? I once had a similar issue with L4D2 for mic spamming when I didn't have my mic on. These things happen friend, no need to get so worked up over it.

Sorry let me rephrase that* We betray each other while mucking around and a random teammate gets in the way and accidentally dies and kicks us, we often get betrayed and can't kick the guy who betrayed us, we betray them back as payback and get kicked. The system is broken.

In Reach, the player gets the option to boot you only after you have betrayed 3 times.
Well that's crap. I've been kicked in the first 5 seconds of a game after i dropped my controller and stuck a teammate in an Elite Slayer game.

I think that is one of the best features of Reach.

Oh im sorry the odds got stacked against you cause never in the history of combat did something odd happen and someone get left in an unwinnable situation.. Oh wait, thats basically 90% of the story OF reach.

Quitting cause you think its unfair is lame, Some of the best and most enjoyable matches ive ever had was 1 against 4. Theres nothing like winning a round of 1 against 4 basically cause you managed to use the maps mechanics against the other team and used strategy and stealth instead of doing the Atypical halo motif of Spawn, run headlong into combat taking out as many people as you can before you die, die, wash rinse repeat.

On the betrayals, ehh, its somewhat glitchy or just doesnt take things into account, like mass accidents. Honestly though thats a rare thing. And yes the people who want to be a dick and betray someone because they got betrayed deserve a 10 min cooling out period. If it was an accident does it really warrant retaliation?

So yes, Im glad to see this functionality. It was long overdue for the series. Sorry you dont like it because it inconveniences you, but It really does for the most part make the game more balanced and fair across the board, and thus a more enjoyable exp in my personal estimation.

I'll tell that one round the dinner table later.

"Screw the joke in the cracker, listen to this one everyone... Halo Reach. LMFAO, right?"

...But seriously, I don't know how everyone is getting banned so often. Unless your connection is dodgy or something. But no, Halo Reach is a bit of a joke, or at least the needlessly borked custom games options and complete lack of actual scenery items apart from the fucking CAMPING STOOL for whatever reason...

So you are saying that even when the connection is laggy as fuck and it refuses to change host or changes and it is no better (YES THIS DOES HAPPEN!) I shouldn't be allowed to quit. I agree with having an EXP penalty for quitting, but not a ban from multiplayer matchmaking, it's ridiculous, I've paid for the game let me play the games I want and quit the ones I want. That's why Gears of War 2 is so good, because it just adds in bots. Such a better system from such a better game. Bungie are too over zealous with their "laws" they have to have complete control and it shows that they will enforce every little thing. It is stupid.

Well they put some systems in place for those glitching assholes that will do everything to win or just mess with peoples games.
Sadly it seems the systems aren't very good, and they end up hurting the people just wanting to play.

How to avoid it? Play good games

If you quit/leave/get booted/lag out about 5 or more times in a very short period of time, you'll get banned for a short period of time. Plus, its Christmas, shitloads of people will be getting on and strain the servers, meaning every so often a mistake will be made. And even then, its only 10 minutes.

And I have a 1mb connection that regularly drops. I know how much it sucks to bet banned for 10 minutes because of your connection. Ask anyone in the Halo group, or the TF2 group, they'll tell you how shit my connection is.

But dude, its only 10 minutes.

Yes, pretty much. I mean, your playing a video game. It is not a life and death situation. Given your citation of a low bandwidth host, It happens. Is it entirely pleasant? No, but honestly in an 8 hour play session how many times do you really encounter someone who is paying for XBL service and a broadband connection who has a horrible connection? Once? twice? Three times? its not very often. Besides that with poor connection hosts if the connection is bad enough the game cuts out usually within the first 3-5 minutes and restarts anyway.

Again my point is the same, Its amazing what you can do when you try. I know Ive had instances where a bad host has resulted in some hillarious glitches. Like walking up on a sniper completely undetected and watching him let off 3 rounds before he realized I was right behind him.

Its a game, its supposed to be for entertainment, and perhaps if the game has become such serious business that minor temporary inconveniences become points of anger then perhaps a 10 minute break with the real world is in order.

stop being a dick in the game, and you wont get banned...

ill give you the spawn system, but very few games even have a decent spawn system, so thats nothing new.
