I knew I was the only one that thought "Spartan IIIs? WTF?"

Ahem, I have yet to try it but yes there is a point. To tell the story of before Master Chief hence giving players a better understanding of what happened and to perfect all of the previous Halo's mistakes and problems.

Of course there has been lots and lots of hype about the new halo game. But from the reviews comments always seem to stick out to me "there isn't much new content'. In fact I think there is only a single new aspect of the game. Even the idea of having the main protagonist as an average soldier was already done in the previous game (that I didn't buy btw) and apart from some new maps and story, what would I get out of this that I couldn't get out of Halo 3.
Is it actually a better game?
The redone elements sorta makes it feel like a remake of Halo CE at times, which is okay for me since I really enjoyed that game. Buuut there aren't really that much repetition at all, its just a few quotes, the light-setting of a map and a few weapons.

I just beat it the other day with a friend and I gotta admit that at first I felt kinda sad, but I quickly realized that it wasn't disappointment, the games just did not have the bad-ass ending the other Halo-games have, where you survive and save the world, because you die and the planet gets torched.
(Thats not a spoiler. You know this the instant you start the campaign and if you payed attention, you knew this back in 2001 when Halo CE came out.)

And to your question. No its not a better game but its not worse either, its a continuation of an epic saga... Or rather the beginning. There is something about the ending I wont spoil, but it will probably only mean something to you if you got caught in by the original Halo 9 years ago.

And back to my rant.

As soon as my friend and I had finished the game we really didn't know what to do at first.
It felt kinda like when you have read a book, you cant just start over right away and especially not when the story continues in another book.

... So we started playing Halo CE again :p

Aaaaand back to your question.

At least thats how I feel... For many others its just about the Multi-player, which tbh. is quite good.

I have already spent a few hours fooling around in the map-editor.

TLDR:

Some parts are left the same while some parts are new. Its like a Halo-compilation of the last 3½ games. A "Best-Of-Halo" so to speak.

personally, I really loved it. I love the Halo verse anyway and this with the Master Chief appearance in reach really fit the bill. I am a pretty unemotional person but I shed a manly tear at the ending and closing knowing that Bungie has closed Halo. Plus the appearance of cortana and Hollsley being the precursor to cortana was awesome.

It took me 10 hours on Normal I got to level 4 on heroic and gave in. I will try though as I am now playing Halo 1 2 ODST then 3 to finish it.

Well for starters Reach works as the perfect prequel to the actual trilogy and anyone who has played through the whole thing knows exactly what I'm talking about and even though the campaign is not the longest it still has some great original story ideas thrown in, plus it humanizes Spartans and makes them feel much more vulnerable then they did in the past.

Plus it has an insane amount of content, standard multiplayer, custom games, firefight, versus, the armory, forge world, theater and so very many other things. There's a lot to play around and fiddle with and a lot of new ideas thrown in, it's not perfect but if you ask me it's still damned excellent.
