First off, let's avoid turning this into a 'DERR what did you expect, Halo is over-hyped etc etc' thread. I'm looking for civility and peoples' opinions on something specific here, not a flame war.

I've been playing Reach a lot over the past few days and despite the game being immensely fun, I'm starting to dislike a few of the maps.

What I'm finding as that the verticality coupled with the winding, maze like structures make for some annoying games. For example, today me and some buddies played on Countdown and literally spent 3/4 of the game just trying to find each-other. Too many floors, too many corridors and too much samey looking stuff. Sword Base is even worse.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm having a lot of fun with the game and enjoy some of the more simple maps like Powerhouse, Spire and Reflection but it seems that all of the best, most fun maps are the ones being made by the community in Forge World. But hey, there's only so much green and grey I want to look at!

The best fun I've had on the game so far has been Rally on the huge open field and Slayer on the COD4 Shipment remake that myself and a buddy made.

It feels to me like Halo 3 had better map design to be honest, it encouraged fast, frantic gameplay, not the wondering around multiple samey looking corridors of Countdown, Boardwalk, Cage, Sword Base.

What do you guys think? Do you like the maps or feel they were better in previous games?

I WANT MORE UNIQUE MAPS BUNGIE! In all fairness I've seen them pre-made Forgeworld so much now. Plus isn't Zealot from Halo 3? And Reflection from Halo 2?

I think we'll just get used to them like we did with the other maps.

I remember being terribly confused on some of those Halo 3 maps at the beginning. One gets used to it, though.

Hey, a thread talking about Halo that I can actually agree with!

Bungie, give us maps or give us innovation!

As we all know, many of those maps created by players are in the matchmaking playlists already.

I'm pretty sure I've seen you on just about every Halo thread now.

Anyways, OT: yah, the maps aren't that great. But I've pretty much just stuck with campaign and firefight for the time being, so I don't particularly mind.

I've been avoiding most Reach threads actually.

I agree about that, I did mention in the OP that the best fun I've had is on community made Forge World maps. I'm mainly referring to the default maps that Bungie made themselves (and even then just a few of them)

Which maps? I haven't seen any.

I have an acronym for you, it begins with D and ends in C.

The best maps have been held back by someone upstairs, I'd bet money on it. On the other hand we have Forgeworld to play with (or rather, you have, I'm still waiting for the damned Slimjim to get delivered).

The maps are pretty good in my opinion.
I usually hear the complaints from my friends that do Forge.

Well, Bungie are getting involved with Activision now so yeah that wouldn't surprise me.

Reflection is a reskinned version of Halo 2's Ivory Tower. Zealot is completely new, but inspired by Midship, also known as Heretic in Halo 3.

I got tired of Zealot after one game on it, its so damn small, you can spawn kill without ever having to play it before. Which just means its stupidly tiny. The Forge World variant 'The Cage' is a Lockout/Blackout inspired map, and fails to live up to them. Boneyard is a good map. Spire is a Good Map. Asylum(Sanctuary), Pinnacle(Ascension), and Hemorrhage(Blood Gulch/Coagulation) are all good Forge world variants. I have yet to try Paradise, but what I have heard is that it is a vehicle spam map. All and all, the maps are okay, but there needs to be more.

C'mon DLC we know you're there

EDIT: Boardwalk can have its moments, but its nothing special, Powerhouse is pretty fun though

I actually have a feeling that Bungie won't bother making new maps, and just select the best player made Forgeworld maps to become standard playlist maps.

I forgive your inability to sense sarcasm in plain text.

I think maps can make or break online shooters. There where only one or two maps I didn't like playing in COD4; I doubt I could name one or two maps I want to play in MW2.

I'm an avid Halo fan, and I have to admit I find the Team Slayer playlist pretty fucked. A lot of the maps do suck, and while in Halo2 I would always want to start with a BR, in Reach the rifle is just so bad up close that it isn't a very good weapon to start with.

Also why the fuck does my team slayer playlist not give me team slayer everytime? It's always swat. Fuck swat.
