Although Halo: Reach has become the most popular game launch ever, selling over $200 million copies in the first 24 hours, the last game from the world of Halo has been marred by technical problems, causing gamers to pour blame on to Microsoft and Bungie.
The first issue was with the new 4GB Arcade version of the Xbox 360 Slim console that Microsoft launched earlier this year to widespread acclaim. Although the new console has no build in hard disk an instead uses flash memory to store game saves and downloaded data, when played in co-op mode, the Halo: Reach game was asking for a hard disk to be put into the console before it would play. Due to the design of the new Xbox 360 Slim, this is not even possible. It seems that there is no patch for this on the horizon as yet, so co-op players with the cheaper console will not be able to play for now.
The second reported issue refers to problems with the game DVD. Many players are getting messages telling them that the disk cannot be read, even though they have just opened the packaging for the first time. Other players are also experiencing issues with video playback from within the game, which is choppy and freezes most of the time.
Microsoft have responded saying that they are "aware of a small number of players" that have the disc read error and are asking them to contact their local Microsoft Customer Support centre for assistance.
Many people see this as another major problem for Microsoft. After the company had to spend $1 billion to replace faulty consoles that showed the "Red Ring Of Death" error, the launch of a game as big as Halo: Reach should have been perfect but has left some gamers furious over further hardware issues.

Did a dupe search before posting this, hopefully I'm not stepping on anyone elses thread. This hit me today, bought Reach Limited Edition and my 120gig Elite can't read the disk. I'm hoping it's just a software issue but I'm hearing rumors of microsoft taking xboxes back in the mail regardless of warranty, fixing the issue and offering an extended warranty for like 30 bucks. The delay sucks but hey, at least I got this journal to read and unit patch to look at until I get it fixed!
I've also heard that the issue is popping up more on limited edition disks than regular, they may have been made in different countries or something. Escapists, are you having better luck than I?
