Now, you guys might have remembered me when I made my last review of halo wars where 85% percent of people made like a Brotherhood of nod fanatic And blew me to oblivion and due to my utter naivety, I?m back.
Now halo wars
(this is far more of a rant, but this is my opinion)

Story -
All clichés are in effect to the Genocidal aliens to the Uber Power armored hero that lived through the MANY Gunfights he faced without a simple scratch. I?m rambling partially but I don't like unoriginal copy and paste story, however this is an RTS and the first one to bring the Boring concept to the RTS waters, so it doesn?t get in the way of the game like it does in an FPS where you get déjà vu.
Time to actually talk about halo wars. The main problem here is the fact that the story is presented horribly. You play the game which doesn?t quite seem to be connected to the story, or you watch the cut scenes and lose sight of the game. Games like all other forms of Art is meant to beautifully mesh like a band hearing the brass beautifully in sync while the flutes play without overshadowing, but I ramble like an old man
also, would it kill them to bring in say a new faction. There?s flood, Reaper seven- whoops sorry the "Covenant" against Steel tal- I?m sorry "UNSC" because all the good human factions require acronyms (nitpick)

Game play -
The factions play pretty basic. no bribing, infiltration, mind control, stealing, or stealth available (I'm not counting the elite honor guards cause there ONLY good against infantry) meaning that the only way to fight is use straight up units. this is a very basic idea, but for the Hardcore?s who played Kane?s Wrath and Red Alert, nothing is very notable and not many units require the skill and finesse to master that can slaughter others in seconds (Cultist)
this, however does make things very easy for new players to come in and play, but it does the runescape problem that they new players as if they were gods and kicking them out of the clouds once they get good enough making online mediocre.
Many players rush a lot, even in unranked which weren?t a real problem since C&C 3 when you can expect all sorts of rushes from loads of bikes to flame tanks that can turn invisible. Halo Wars doesn?t do anything new
Halo Wars also attempts to make players diverse by making the pick one of 6 generals (3 per faction) picked straight from Generals except far less varied.
So far the game play part was not multiplayer mainly due to the fact that RTS's naturally have relied on having good multiplayer, BUT!!! professional RTS's also have a good story for some balance, like Kane?s wrath having 90 solo missions via Kane?s challenge and the campaign, while Red Alert 3 let you play as all the different factions from their perspective allowing you the ability to rule the world with the faction you like. Halo wars has an "okay" campaign, but could be better.

Innovation -
The weak point. The weak point that if a laser painter was aimed at it, a bark could shatter all of bungee.
Most ideas are picked from EA's counter parts. from the freezing support power reminiscent to cryo-gedden to the idea of picking generals to the upgrade ideas stripped from V&C 3
the game never does anything unique no special thing that makes Halo wars "Halo Wars" it had so much opportunity and possibility.

Controls -
This is where it shines because it really makes things easy for newer players. You can control many forces with such ease that micro can be used very well. While it may be second to the command stick interface, it's solid enough that it really feels accessible to any idiot. For those who say that RTS and console compatibility was doomed from the start can die slowly and painfully in the worst possible way. I don't want to shell out thousands for a top end PC to play one genre.

Now For the extremely necessary disclaimer that will be ignored by at least 5 noobs.
Don't bash me for this review by saying I never played it or me being a basher because it's not that I hate the game for no reason, it's that I don't like it for being too boring and safe.
Bet 20$ that 1 of the first 5 posters don't read this

In the end really, recommended rent only if you haven't played an rts before

I didn't mind this game. I agree with all your points but still... okay that didn't make sense even to me.

Stop bashing the game! You hate it for no reason! (joking, i read the disclaimer)

Yea i didn't like the game much. It's pretty, and faithful to the canon, but i just got so pissed with repeat failures on the mission where you have to protect the 3 evac ships (once with only 20 secs to go) that i just gave up. Then again i am horrendously bad at RTS games so i probably shouldn't have got it in the first place.

I found it horribly simple and unoriginal. I found your review good, keep it up.

All the FPS Halos are average but Halo Wars just plain sucks compared to PC RTS. Fuck all those "professional" game reviewers who score Halo eights {which is way too high} this review perfectly sums up how bad Halo Wars is.
Right. I'm a user, and I would say that you should go out and buy all the Halo games, just so you know. They're quality stuff.

But to this review: it's... bad. First off, your grammar and spelling need some serious work. Half the time I could barely read this, because your sentences tend to be run-ons. And not just normal run-ons, but BAD ones. I'm at a loss of words to describe it.

Most of the review seemed to be complaining that Halo Wars isn't Command & Conquer.

I don't think this really applies, the three Spartans in the Red Team splinter attached to the Spirit of Fire aren't all that important to the plot. Jerome is the only one with a speaking role outside of gameplay and none of them are referred to by name.

Well, really for console players like me, the C&C series is the main frame of refrence because there some of the only RTS's on the console

second, my reviews not talking about how HW isn't C&C, rather to put in Kanes terms, "Nothing more then a craven pretender"

I'm sorry but I'm in the camp that says this review wasn't very well-designed. While I feel I got most of your points from this, rereading was necessary to come to terms with much of it.

Besides my inability to really follow this, I believe you did a nice enough job of describing how it plays. Comparing it to another game was helpful in places, but maybe you used the comparisons a touch too much. Saying it doesn't push the boundaries and then saying how it is completely different (doesn't require skill, no stealth, blah blah blah) from the other game, while it can be true, seems, for lack of a better term, counter intuitive.

Also, you say there are three factions (Flood, Covenant, UNSC) and that each one has three generals. That would make nine generals total, not the six you say.

This review made me sad. Over the last couple of weeks I've read a number of good reviews on here, and this seems to break my streak.

I don't get why you seem to hate the "innovation" and yet praise the controls. The controls were the innovation. It's like the people who hate on Far Cry 2 because it wasn't an arcade-y CoD style game. You say there is no "stealing, or stealth available (I'm not counting the elite honor guards cause there ONLY good against infantry)." Well,I assume you mean stealing of units, I played the demo, and I can highjack units with Spartans. And saying you don't count a unit because it's only good against a particular unit type, it still has that ability.

This review was needs some help in flow, most of the time the sentences feel disjointed and abrupt. Please stop using the word "rant" and referencing C&C games, Halo Wars was meant as a kind of baby's first RTS, C&C is a hardcore RTS franchise. You don't compare Gran Turismo and Burnout because they focus on different parts of the racing market, arcade and sim.

I still have issues with Halo being in RTS form as it were because part of what charmed me to the series was the fact that it was consistantly a shooter.

Halo Wars was actually a really good game. I only played the single player campaign and was satisfied with that.
