So I was playing halo wars when my playtime scrolls across the bottom. 159 hours.
I slowly realised I've had this game longer than many others without trading in and I actually loved it. But I don't know many other people who agree and I was wondering how the escapist feels about it?

I remember i vaguely and wasn't to bad. I rented it but strangely enough I had to give it back when I got to the same level that Yhatzee gave up on.
Weird.

Aside from the original Battle for Middle Earth, Halo Wars is the only RTS that I've actually been able to complete. Mostly because the RTS genre just isn't my thing and I get bored with them easily. So that says a lot about it. Interest in the subject matter helps to increase interest in the overall product I guess. It was enjoyable enough, even if they butchered the Halo canon in order to squeeze the Flood in.

I would imagine for the vast amount of Halo fans, an RTS game isn't the sort of game they would typically play either, so I expect that's why it's not thought of all that highly. Plus, the way I understand it, it's quite dumbed down both for an RTS and for an Ensemble Sudios game. That's what I've heard at any rate.

It's one of the few games I can just pick up and play whenever. I have a good time just playing a small skirmish against a computer opponent. Prophet of Regret FTW :D

EDIT: Aw, hell, I'm gonna play it now :D

I have played it a little but I don't own a 360. It was however ensemble studio's last game and I really liked those guys. I might not be good at rts' but I still enjoyed age of empires quite a lot. Not so sure about an rts on a console though.

You're the only other person on this site I have ever seen mention Battle for Middle Earth, In my honest opinion, one of the best games ever.

High-five.

I like it, but I would like it a lot more if it was on PC. RTS's and consoles don't mesh.

I loved that game too XD
It is dumbed down because they had to make it easy to control using a 360 controller. If they left in a load of features and commands typical to a PC RTS it would have been impossible

You sir, have earned yourself a High-Five and my respect.

I LOVED the shit out of the game when I owned it, I'm surprised it is not held in higher regard. Sadly my PC was so rubbish it could hardly play it and reaching the final level was painful so I traded it in a while back. I've since upgraded my PC and I should really look into finding another copy. BFME2 just wasn't the same.

If I never played a strategy game on PC before then I would probably think it's the shit, but as I have... it just feels horrid to play.

I played it a reasonable amount. Its probably the best RTS on console, and it shows that if you sacrifice a few things (depth mostly) then it can be done satisfactily on console. Wouldn't mind if they did another.

I really wish the servers were still open for that game, then we could totally duke it out. Me and my brother still play the game LAN whenever we can (usually when we're both back at home from uni) and we have played it LAN together since it was released. We are now total demons on Old Brown Lands, successfully taking on 6 enemies all on hard and wiping the floor with them. Admittedly it took us 6 hours of constant play, but we managed it!

Right about BFME2, good, but just not awesome. Balancing was screwed up and the build anywhere mechanic never worked properly. The heroes totally sucked, and Archers with knock-back arrows were totally overpowered it was ridiculous.

saw some gameplay, looks pretty although it was a very dumb choice to make it console exlusive.
