How did I join? Well my friends had been bugging me for a while to check it out, but I'd kept kind of pushing it to the side (Finals were coming up, Portal 2 had come out,there was stuff to do). Then I finished Portal 2 and thought 'that was a kickass ending song, wonder if anyone's made an amv of it,' and I found this:

And then I did.

A walleyed grey pegasus named Derpy Hooves is the reason I started watching FiM. I had read that there was an inside joke/animation error inserted into the background of the pilot, and in my curiosity I decided to check it out. Sadly the thread I'd been reading neglected to mention that the pilot was a two-parter, so I ended up watching both parts. Apparently, that's all it takes to hook a person.

Lyra's pretty fun, too, what with her hand-lust and all. It appears I have a thing for quirky background-dwelling madmares.

Call me late to the party, but I saw yesterday that every episode of Mlp:FiM was uploaded commercial free to YouTube, so I decided to open up my personal Pandora's box and watch the first few episodes. Little did I know that I had gone too deep, and now I'm have to watch the next episode regardless of any feelings towards doing so. It seems that I've become a brony overnight, and I'm scared now. (hold me)

So, Escapists, describe how you got hooked on the world of ponydom. How did you watch it, when did you watch it, and why.

btw Twilight Sparkle is by far the best pony. Deal with it.

Eh, better late than never right? If it makes you feel better I only got into the show earlier this year myself.

I still remember how it all started:

I went to Dallas for A-Kon this year and there was a LOT of pony related pictures, buttons, badges, some cosplay...etc. Out of the group I went with one (perhaps more, they just hid it well) was a brony already and he often said how much he liked the show. He even got a picture depicting what he would look like if he were a pony. (It was pretty well drawn, all things considered.)

Anyways from then on I just couldn't seem to get the show off my mind. Unfortunately I was also very much aware of the slight stigma that came with it. I kept saying to myself "If they like it that's fine. It's just not my thing." But I couldn't stop the niggling thoughts. Later on in the summer I finally broke down said "Oh, what the hell..." and started from episode one.

Half a year later finds me eagerly awaiting each and every new episode. There is just something about the show that is so damn...compelling. It's a great show, very well done all around. I very much regret not seeing it sooner.

And I have to agree with you, Twilight Sparkle is the best pony.

I'm gonna have to vehemently disagree with you on that one. Posting ponies in a non-pony thread on this site, or any other site for that matter, is bound to start a flamewar. We should be just as careful as keeping the flamewars out of the pony threads as out of the non-pony threads.

Well that's great. Except that you disagree with something that I didn't even say. I said that posting pony stuff in non-pony threads would not get you into trouble. I did not say anything about causing flame-wars.

I made a thread, several years ago, when the fist Pony Avatars were appearing, asking what was going on.

Someone posted the first episode.

Three seasons later, we come to today.

Any specific questions you have? Want suggestions for places to go or things to watch?

Funnyjunk introduced me to the show, with the incredible amount of bronies on there I figured I would give the show a try. I ended up watching the entire first season in one night at my cousin's house.

Soarin is best pony.

Out of the mane six Pinkie Pie is clearly the best, but overall Big McIntosh is my favorite. Anyways, got into the show after deciding to watch it on a whim. That was maybe a few months after the whole thing caught on and I'd seen it discussed everywhere so I figured I'd have to give it a legitimate chance before choosing a side in the debate (though it's not so much a debate as much as haters throwing out insults/trolling). Am glad I watched it, tis a fine show.
