Happy Anime/Cartoons that are mature-ish. Also a sort of celebration thread for them.

Talk about drama porn, ey?

OT: My Neighbor Totoro

This is without a doubt the happiest, cuddliest, and sweetest movie you'll ever see, and it completely avoids ever being sticky or sappy. If this doesn't get you out of a slump, fucking nothing will.

Panyo Panyo DiGi Charat is just about the most adorable thing ever but not really mature-ish by anyone's definition.

In terms of happy anime that is actually mature-ish... Well, I definitely have to echo the recommendation for Cromartie High School, but other than that, I'm drawing a bit of a blank on anything that hasn't been mentioned yet. Also a ginormous +1 for Azumanga Daioh.

Well, Phineas and Ferb always makes me happy.

It's very optimistic, but with some healthy cynicism thrown in not to make it all too disgustingly sweet.

Avatar The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra are pretty mature for cartoons aimed at kids. Also they're awesome and fun and funny and awesome.

Gintama. More people need to watch Gintama. One minute you're laughing so hard it hurts, and the next you're crying like a baby. And the best part is that even though has an episode count in the hundreds, every episode is gold (unlock other shonen animes that are padded with fillers).

Well know one has said it yet, and there is only one show I can think of that fits the bill of being mature, and uplifting.

Usagi Drop

This show basically has the complete opposite tone to Madoka Magica. It's about a man who ends up single handedly caring for the illegitimate daughter of his grandfather (basically his 6 year-old aunt) who is shunned by most of the family. I centres around the hardships of being a single parent, but also shows how rewarding caring and loving a child can be. It is done completely realistically, whilst having a lot of charm to it, and you can see why it's normally ranked in the top of anime lists.

Well I would say "The Iron Giant" it being one of my favorite movies of all time. But it's not happy, it's really sad.

Was that not the one with sexual child slavery and children drafted into military service?

Finally, an excuse to recommend my favorite anime of all time...

Tsuritama!

Just look at how bright and happy it is! It's about fishing and friendship and aliens and the end of the world and all that good stuff.
It also features the most accurate representation of social anxiety I have ever seen.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and Eden of the East. Both are mature but also have lots of funny.

...I really don't understand how people find Madoka so disturbing.
They have souls? Nah, I'm kidding, the ending wrapped everything up in a nice, bittersweet bow for me.

CAPTCHA: she's a witch
Magical girl, Captcha, she's a magical girl. It's completely different.

Um, anyway, on the primary subject...can I say Bakemonogatari?
