*Sigh*
Is it ironic that after a big rant about birthday threads on the Escapist in the Pub-Club I run across this one?
First off, I want everyone to know that I just don't hate birthdays, I hate threads celebrating about them, especially when its made by the friends of that person. Why? Because you're all more then capable of using the PM system, facebook, Skype, Twitter and several other things to communicate with one another. I'm sure Unusual would prefer 5 Happy Birthdays from close friends then a Hundred from people like myself who have had no idea of who he is.
At least a few people people will have posted in here by the time the day is out and I can guarantee that a lot of them probably don't know who Unusual is, yet they will still say "Happy birthday." Why? Because we're accustomed to doing so.
If I bumped into you, I say "excuse me." Why? Because it allows me to say "I'm sorry for bumping into you." without spending more then 5 seconds of my life. I've had people come up to me on my birthday and say Happy Birthday to me and then walk away. They don't mean what they say and I honestly don't care that they said it. A thousand strangers singing me happy birthday is about on par with 1 of my friends doing it.
In short, when strangers say happy birthday, rarely do they mean it. Please, keep private event private. Not because the threads take up space on the forum, not because I don't like them, but because it means a lot more when a friend says "Happy birthday." then a bunch of people here who will post in this thread and never look at it again.
