Well, I know there's not a lot of discussion value in well wishes, but I wanted to let everyone that isn't Canadian on the Escapist share in our fancy little holiday. So, Happy Canada Day from this Escapist to all the Escapists everywhere else in the big, wide (occasionally scary) world.

I did think of someone that has a small amount of conversational value, though! What do all you various Escapists do/participate in for your country's version of its' independence celebration? Locally, my city is going to have fireworks over the river valley, and by and large everyone is going to be out having a family-friendly sort of good time. It's not a very big celebration (in terms of scale) compared the Canada Day celebrations I saw in Montreal for the 125th Canada Day, back when I was in gr.8, but it's still pretty cool to go be part of the event and see how many newly-emigrated people appreciate the opportunity to participate in the day that marks the founding of their new home. There's very little that makes me warm and fuzzy inside, but knowing that I'm part of a country that welcomes its' newcomers to share in a celebration of independence is pretty neat.

Yes, happy Canada day to you also. Being from the UK, all I can really say is happy to have you in the commonwealth and I hope the day passes with the revelry and exuberance such things deserve! :)

Here in the states we have our Independence Day on July 4th. It's going to be a bunch of fireworks and barbecues and stuff, very much like what Canada Day sounds like.

...I would post a How I Met Your Mother video here, but I can't seem to find the shortened version. Oh well, happy Canada once more! I actually love your country :O

Also not from Canada, but yeah, happy national holiday, fellow commonwealthers.

Now, stick the union flag in the top left of your flag, and let's go look down on the rest of the world.

Sadly the Union Jack would really throw off the maple leaf's asthetic... but here's my provincial flag:

Enjoy your holiday my more northward brothers and sisters!

On the 4th I'll be BBQ'n it up with some family(and hopefully some friends), swimming, fireworks(maybe as they have been getting lamer every year), and chances are some ice cream.

Only downside being when I'm around no else wants to cook so I'll be running around a lot. Haven't decided on what to make yet. Pulled pork, burgers, chicken, pork chops, mac n cheese, potatoes...

Happy Canada day from ye olde worlde. May you always benefit from the direct comparison to your loud rude neighbours (who are about 17% offspring of settlers from my country, but whatever, thats probably the clever and polite part :p)

I have nobody to go to the fireworks with and I don't have money for concert tickets. Guess I'll spend Canada Day playing Magic lol.

Hey you hoser, don't make me come out of my igloo to have a hockey fight with you, then apologize and go to the bar for some real beer, eh? I mean if it wasn't snowing here in Toronto I'd be out riding my polar bear over to the maple syrup factory, and hopefully I wouldn't get pulled over by a Mounty for going too fast, eh? But if he did pull me over, I'd just tell him I was on my way to the hospital for some free medical treatment. That's aboot all I can think of. Now get off of my chesterfield.
