Today one year of Doom 2016 has been completed. the game that define this generation. most beloved game on steam, Best FPS of last decade, and best game of the generation too has completed 1 year today (correct me if im wrong but doom 2016 i think was release on may 13 or 14 or 15. dont know exact date or im too late but better late than never).

in one year of journey. this game proof that how to do modern FPS. a proper PC old school FPS that resemble 90s shooter and how to fit in modern day too. this type of shooter are Id software can done.

the game is Masterpiece.

I disgree OP. I played the demo and got bored of being locked in rooms until I kill everything. I didnt like the QTE finishes either, I didnt like being locked in the animation until it was completed.

Doom wasn't even the best FPS of 2016, nevermind a generation. There has been no wave of copy cat titles, it is a bit of nostalgia, not a trend setter.

Overwatch was the best FPS of 2016. Doom my have sold more on steam (OW is not on steam) but OW sold way more with a much larger player base, constant updates, a number of similar titles also spawned trying to ape its success.

When I did my Games of the Year for 2016, Doom was on the list. I described it as a one-note game that played a very, very good note.
It's also a game that I didn't actually *beat* until into 2017, mostly because of its one-note nature. The further into the game it gets, the less interesting it gets, because it really doesn't change things up much... But it makes a very favorable first impression.

It's the sort of game that I'd definitely recommend playing, but also recommend stopping once you start losing interest. I certainly didn't get anything more about it when I came back to properly "finish" it.

I've never played a Doom game in my life and even I know Doom is way older than 1. Hell, Doom is older than I am.

As for defining this generation. No. No it hasn't. By any stretch of the imagination. I'm more than positive Overwatch has had more of an impact than Doom has. If any FPS is going to be defining this generation, it's Overwatch.

Narrative-wise, this game did something... unexpected. I view this game as debunking the "Gamers want good characters" psuedo-myth.

Nobody gives a fuck about complex characters, the thing people want is strong characterization. The Doom Slayer has virtually no character, what minuscule droplets of character he had were amplified through the sheer strength of his characterization to the point where he became an icon all over again.
