So instead of unlocking other parts of the game, you get virtual trophies and numbers?

Why would I ever bother with achievements?
Then why did you come here?

Man Vs. Tank on Left 4 Dead.

Okay, before you start on me, Hear me out. I couldn't play it online when I tried for it.

Expert Realism (Forget the name of the achievement) - Left 4 Dead 2 (I forgot the gamerscore)

There's some others.

1k hits combo in GOW3 is only a bronze. That's bullshit man.
That was bullshit, it took me forever to get it, and you only get bronze out of it? I want at least silver for that bastard.

This. I have both an xbox 360 and a PS3, and I don't have a rat's ass about achievements or trophies. If I don't get anything for it, then really what's the point?

Personally, I think that Gamer Score should translate to MS points so you can buy DLC and stuff. I mean, it makes sense, reward players who buy more games, and play them more so that they buy even more games and play them even more.

The hardest one of all is the achievement for turning off the console, leaving the house, meeting a nice girl, taking a sailing boat around the world, having three beautiful blonde children and finally dying contempt in the knowledge that you didn't spend 12 years waiting for an utterly pedestrian sequel to a game that everyone stopped caring about around 1997 to be released by a developer that makes John Romero look on the ball. Which is a huge challenge because if just one of those kids turns out brunette then you have to start all over again.

Check out cavia inc.'s offerings: Nier has some horribly grindy sidequests needed for achievements (Fuck life in the sands), and if you want all the achievements you have to let the game delete your savefile.

But the icing on that company's troll cake is a dreadful game they shat out a while back called bullet witch. Where you could be killed by physics on the final boss completely randomly through no fault of your own. Which had a hard mode. Which lived up to the name. Yet still managed to be tedious. Completing that godawful game? 1g

Any achievement that involves getting every single collectable item. When I get those, I want some damned in-game extra content to enjoy. Nothing like having a chopper ready for mayhem whenever you want when you got all the secret packages from the GTA vice city game...

I really hope that one makes into DNF

for the ps3, smash tv from portal 2 is a freaking bronze trophy. it's worth 75p for the 360 but it's a bronze. for those who don't know, it's basically playing each puzzle in an entire chapter for two goals instead of the one get to the exit one and some of the things you gotta do take a lot of even more out of the box puzzling.

The current resident pain-in-the-arse is getting to level 50 in Crysis 2 multiplayer. The rest of the online achievements i earned legit. And you know what really annoys me? I want to play the single player, but i can't, because of this sort of OCD thing that compels me to have all the multiplayer achievements in one perfect pile and all the singleplayer achievements in another perfect pile. They can't be mixed. WORLD WILL END.

Anyway i'm level 25 out of 50 now and the reason i forced myself to do it first is because i'm terrified of it becoming like every other online game that's no longer flavour of the month and having a dead online community, thus making it impossible to get the 1000g's on it. I'm also working on the Mortal Kombat online achievements such as win 10 ranked matches in a row. Don't even get me started on the rage i experience with that.

I believe the real reason achievement hunters (ones who take it seriously) do it is because we recognise completion above numerical value. For example, i've had people say "wow man i can't believe you did the 7 day survivor in Dead Rising, that's insane" or "how on earth did you do that final challenge on Vanquish", but when you see someone with over 200k gamerscore with duplicate games and "hannah montana" on their gamercard, they don't gain words of respect, they gain the ire of their peers because it's a cheap way of showing your "skill". I suppose it's also to do with having an element of perfectionism. "I must always strive for 50 / 50 achievements even when the game is no longer fun because everything must be NEAT UND TIDY."

All the achievements for Kengo: Legend of the Nine. The gamerscore payoff is not worth the cost of playing.......

That goddamn "Killing Machine" trophy in Resistance 2. You have to get 10,000 kills in online ranked matches. TEN FRIGGIN' THOUSAND! And only kills in ranked matches count! I'm going to die without getting that trophy.

Maybe not something that I spent 10 million hours to get.

But in the Orange Box for 360, achievement to score a basket with D.O.G's ball with the gravity gun in the scrapyard section. Only have a finite amount of time before shit gets real- so I found myself just constantly going back, reloading and never quite getting it just right, pissing me off more and more. Then when I finally got it- 2G.

Achievement to balance out a previous achievement that was worth 3G or something earlier in the game. But then, Orange Box had its 1000G spread out over 5 games so the values were a little lower than the norm
