[I didn't remember that you needed to use the "Elegy of Emptiness" to succeed during the Stone Tower Temple, something I discovered long after my only opportunity to replay Majora's Mask.
How can you forget that? You have to play it sooooooo many times. That's one of the major reasons I hate that Temple.

Hardest: Water Temple. As was mentioned earlier, more tedious than actually difficult, but damn, that last small key...

Easiest: Spirit Temple. Or at least it always seemed like a cake walk to me because I would always do it right after the Water Temple. Getting through Gerudo Valley to get there is harder than the temple itself. Though I have an interesting question. After the Water Temple, you're basically left to figure out for yourself where to go next. Are you officially "supposed" to do one of the Spirit and Shadow temples before the other, or is the order meant to be flexible?
I'm pretty sure you need to do the Shadow temple first. As the Lens of Truth is required to get through the Desert leading to the Spirit Temple. Unless you somehow memorize the path you need to go to get there.

Also, doesn't Navi tell you where to go next after each temple?

EDIT: Actually wait, never mind. You get the Lens of Truth in the well. So you can technically do the Spirit Temple BEFORE the Shadow Temple.
Navi doesn't tell you where to go next after the Water Temple, she just says, "Let's look for somebody who might know something about the Ancient Sages," or something to that effect. Basically, "I have no goddamn idea where to go next."

What had me confused was that the "trigger" cutscene, if you will, revealing Impa as the Shadow Sage and the location of the Shadow Temple happens before you get the Lens of Truth, but all the indicators in the pause menu show the Spirit Temple things (song, medallion, etc.) before the Shadow Temple things, as well as the fact that the Spirit Temple is 100% possible to complete without having visited the Shadow Temple first. (I do it every single time, except once, I think.) You don't need the Mirror Shield to do the Shadow Temple, or the Hover Boots to do the Spirit Temple. So really, yeah, it's up in the air.

It's general consensus that the Water Temple is hardest.
I never found the Water Temple in OoT to be as hard as people make it out to be. I always found Majora's Mask's Water Temple to be MUCH worse in comparison.
Agreed. Screw those currents. Majora's Mask, as great a game as it is, has a bunch of awful temples (Stone Tower being the worst).

I didn't have the internet when I was playing Ocarina as a kid, so I never knew so many people had problems with it until a few years ago. I always liked it. I thought the boss was cool, and the hookshot was my favorite weapon in the game.
I quite liked the Stone Tower Temple myself. It's just the Great Bay Temple that killed it for me.

For the rest of the temple they highlight the water level areas and made the iron boots an item instead of gear. This allows Link to do a swim through water levels making it less annoying to navigate.
Ah, I'm so glad that WW started the trend of the iron boots being a separate item instead of an equip. So much more convenient. And at least with Majora's Mask you could skip the water temple and save it for last, since after you got the dungeon item you could then go to Stone Tower and Ikana (Now I want to play Majora's Mask again. Damn I loved that entire section with Ikana)

The easiest was the first (Forest temple) and the hardest was the last (Spirit Temple). There's a reason they put them in that order (although I'm not 100% certain that the three others are in order of difficulty).

Water=made me never finish the game.....I opened the wrong door and then was ...well screwed.
How does opening the wrong door work? How did Nintendo make that mistake? Also, how do you know it's the wrong door?
