I'm playing Ratchet and clank right now, and drek is fucking impossible.

I've run outta bolts, out of ammo, and the only way I've gotten close to beating him is using the suck cannon his mines.

I'll have to leave, grind for a couple dozen thousand bolts and buy the RHYNO at this rate.

Hm do the games that make you fight every boss you ever faced before IN A ROW and THEN make you fight the last boss count? Its more like the 'last level'

Definitely Ares in God of War, seeing as how he could ruin minutes of effort trying to pick away at his health by one short combo. And there's two stages left when you finally manage. And that's only on normal dufficulty.
My god, I don't want to imagine that on hard...or very hard. *shivers*

Not that hard just really long: Kessler in inFamous, on hard, while having the hero karma rank.

I had enourmus problems with General Raam from Gears of War and Ares from God of War, when you sharethe health bar. Felt like I tried at least 50 times on both.

The final three bosses in Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door. Three bosses in a row, no save points, no heal points. Fuck, that part almost made me smash my contoller in two.

Lucifer in Dante's Inferno was pretty damn hard as well. Especially with that blinding move he had.

Probably this. Any boss that ha a one hit kill move is really annoying but when you add in other guys shooting at you, a time limit that wont let you use the surprising useful, whittle him down strategy and The fact that he has huge life and will kick your ass six ways from Sunday with his attacks... it's just not fair.

I killed him be using a small exploit, there's a slashing blades attack that deals good damage and also keeps him distracted long enough for you to do it again. Just spamming one move and hoping you don't die during the process is the only way I can see to beat him. Hard mode for this guy must be really scary.
I beat him on Hard Mode. It isn't TOO tough, it was certainly easier than beating Dante on Devil May Cry 4 on Son of Sparta Difficulty, which is fucking ridiculous, but it's certain a test of patience. Basically, you have to abuse the Critical Pain Devastator. I found Muscle Mass to be the best. Simply run around the whole play, hurling explosives at him and eating soldiers to charge up for the Critical Pain. The real problem is when the timer starts. If you can't get enough power for a Critical Pain before all the soldiers leave, you're in trouble.

Oh wow, I just realized I do have an answer to that. Ignoring the nigh-impossible 8 and 16-bit bosses I don't bother with, the hardest boss I ever fought was Ares, the god of war, in God of War. Three phases of some of the hardest gameplay I've ever been involved in, especially that second phase with all the Kratos's attacking your family on a tiny floating island and that's after the first phase where you just go all-out and still barely survive. This was on Heroic (medium) difficulty, and that was more than enough for me! It took me over an hour but I had been playing since the previous day and I was NOT quitting when I was so close.

The final boss of Zone of the Enders 2. I tried it for days, and then I just gave up.

I've been playing FFXII a lot over the last few days and although they are not bosses some of the hunt monsters are really tough and take ages to kill.
Xemnas was also hard (mainly because there's a point you to reach him to save Sora within a time limit.

Probably Darth Malak in KoTOR, took me awhile. That or the boss in Kane and Lynch that tries to kill Kane's daughter with a bulldozer

The Water Elemental in Crash Bandicoot the Wrath of Cortex.

Seriously it took me two weeks and two controllers (I may have gotten angry and tore one of them apart with my teeth, I am not making this up) to get past it. It left me traumatised, although it did teach me getting angry at games is pretty stupid at a young age.
I've gone on a Crash Bandicoot strike because of him. I may try again some time, but for now... Screw him.

Water Elemental aside, it's probably Nihilith, from Half Life 1. He was one hard boss.

The hardest boss fight I can think of is the final boss in Bubsy for the SNES. That boss is a cheat, he throws out every single hazard the game has randomly... I only beat him one time...

For me, Lazarevic from Uncharted 2. Tedious yes, but you miss a single jump and your entire rhythm goes flying out the window.

Vergil, Devil May Cry 3. Impatience will kill you. Inaccuracy will kill you. Hesitance will make the fight much longer and probably end in your death. This guy can be a real headache on very hard and dante must die modes. One wrong move and he will combo you to oblivion.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot this...

Kaizack from Super Hydlide (Sega Megadrive). To kill him you have to slice his kneecaps off and then jump into his mouth and slash away. While you're in his mouth you take constant, huge damage and you have to kill him before he kills you. On top of that the walk there is a long way and if you take too long it gets dark, you start getting hungry and tired and lose combat effectiveness.

In 16 years I have yet to finish that game.
