Has anyone here tried getting the Dark Boy achievement for Binding of Isaac? That shit is impossible. Also any pokemon game with the Nuzlocke challenge, with the bonus rule that you can't use potions.

Other than that I prefer to stay away from notoriously difficult games.

I haven't played it, but it has to be this hands down

It'd be hard enough just putting up with that Boss's laugh.
I'll take your Mushimisama Futari and raise you with Dodonpachi Daioujou Death Label (DOJ DL)on the PS2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCKZj2Xss9A

Its a special boss rush mode where you fight around 12 bosses no lives 1 hit and its game over. From what I understand that MON dude is the only person to have beaten it, watch his godly dodging skills in that promotional vid I linked

I have Mushimisama Futari for the 360, that Ultra mode in the vid is a bit out of my league i'll stick with the much easier Original and Maniac modes.
I don't know. Do any of those bosses have an obnoxious laugh that you have to put up with?

Ugh...I just bought that game and am having a weird glitch where Kyle's body duplicates. So there are three body duplicates sort of in a clump (it's not symmetrical). And the duplicates must have their own hitboxes, because enemies suddenly were extremely accurate against me (seriously, like 90% of their shots hit me now). Sucked the fun out of the game, so I quit.

As for me; and I've played a LOT of hard-as-hell games; the hardest game I've ever played was MechCommander 1. That game, on any difficulty above "normal", was damned near impossible to beat. I don't care how "good" or "tactical" you are, when a Raven scout mech can take down Atlas assault mech without trying, that's a God damned hard game. It's one of, if the only, game I've ever needed cheats to beat.

Still, it's "theoretically" possible to beat the game on the hardest difficulties. Even if I've never seen it.
Really?!

Well, that is a surprise. I'm a HUGE Battletech fan, and I love the MechCommander games. I've played them both on the hardest difficulties and finished them without much problem. I don't mean to sound like I'm tooting my own horn here or anything, I just never considered any MechCommander game as, well... hard.

Now, playing Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries on multiplayer wearing only Elemental armour, though... now THAT'S hard! :p

That's really odd o_O

If you can fix it though, you really should try. The first few levels aren't very fun- You're stuck with a shitty blaster against stormtroopers who don't suck, but when you get your lightsaber and forcepowers it's probably one of the best star wars games, bar maybe the KOTOR series.

I mentioned the bug on the game's technical issues forum on Steam yesterday. Googling didn't help, looking up bug fixes for the game didn't help. I'm not very good at the technical side of computers (I can follow directions, but I can't really figure things out on my own). So I just have to wait and hope someone can help. That or I can start the game over. But I don't like the idea of restarting a game that bugged out on me, not knowing if the issue will occur again.

I am still early in the game (Artus Topside). The duplicate bodies also show up (even in first person view) when I use the turrets to try to take out the AT-STs. They obscure my view, which makes aiming guesswork.

The gunplay does suck. There is almost no feedback for when you hit enemies. Even the first Dark Forces had a nice sound when you made contact.

Oh god yeah, I played ~30 hours of the multiplayer until I pushed myself to get the lightsaber. But even after that, you get some really cool and fun guns later in the game, along with some ridiculous and OTT force powers.

Maybe I played an early version or something, but I recall having my whole lance of assault and heavy mechs taken down by two scout mechs when playing on the hardest difficulty.

And no, I don't "suck" at the game. Haha. The scout mechs were taking dozens of PPC and gauss-cannon hits but were barely losing armor. Meanwhile, my assault mechs would take a few laser hits and lose half their armor.

Maybe my game was bugged. I don't know. I just recall it being almost unfairly hard; given my mechs died to every damn thing thrown at them.

Coincidentally, I loved playing as the Elemental power-armor in Mech2:Merc. That was incredibly fun. ;)

Of the games I play regularly, I'd say NetHack is the hardest.
I'm going to agree with this. Lots of "hard" games can be beaten in a few hours/days/weeks if you work at it. But Nethack generally takes years. I think Dwarf Fortress falls into the same category.

Alien Trilogy for the Playstation.

I think my dad and I only beat it once without cheats, it took us weeks to get through the last act.

I'm going to have to go with Bit Trip Beat. It's just cruel. It messes with your vision, the controls leave no room for error, and the levels take FOREVER.
I'm going to go with games i actually have to make this fair.

Now i don't try to get hard games, frustration isn't my thing, which is why BIT.TRIP RUNNER has my vote. It's actually really fun... at least up until the fourth control on the last world (No not last level, last world). The game is farely simple, one button to jump, then you get one to slide, and then on to kick, but the problem is that once you get that final fourth button, which is reflect, everything just becomes a scrambling mess of trying to remember which button to press and when. I just gave up on the game after i got the the level after you get the fourth button just because of how confused i was getting. "STAIRS! *Jump jump jump jump* *Slide* *reflect* Slide* *kick* *jump* GAH WHICH BUTTON IS REFLECT"

Music is nice though. Good game.

I nominate the original Contra.

Old games were way more cruel than any game today. Dark Souls, take a fucking seat.
Well this guy can't beat his friends at Mario Party but look what he pulled off:

Hm... maybe i need to try my hands at Contra again sometime. Because either my perception got clouded because of how young and inexperienced i was with games at the time or i just really suck at all things video games :/

Hardest game I played?
TRY and finish that game without the cheating device. SERIOUSLY!

But it is a fun game though.

Isn't Desert Bus the hardest ever?
I mean drive bus from one stop to the other (8 hours straight real time) and there's a small something that makes the bus go a bit to the rigth all the time so you can't go afk and when you reach the bus stop? DRIVE ALL THE WAY BACK!!! adn again, and again and again...
