Your review is unbalanced, story takes up most of it. Hardly any critism or valid points. A bit short here and there.

The series sucks anyway

While I will give that there is always an undertone of love and relationships (what coming of age story doesn't) in the books it stays an undertone.
An undertone? The overemphasis on relationships in that book was my biggest problem with it.

So it sucked? That's not surprising at all. After the monstrous failures of the first and second--I stopped going to the theater to see them.

Actually, his review is incredibly accurate of the movie. Everything he stated my friends and I stated as we walked out of the theater in incredible disappointment. A friend of mine even commented on the filter bit which he thought looked a lot like Twilight. Oddly, I felt like the movie played out more like Twilight than a Harry Potter film as it was going on.

One of my friends who went with us is a huge Harry Potter fan to the point of being the equivalent of a Trekkie and was incredddddibly disappointed by the movie. "It just wasn't a good movie" was the one thing she said the most that night.

I see where you're coming from, but I was actually impressed with this movie. The fact that they managed to cover so much content in so little time (remember that this is the longest HP book in the series) was amazing, and I had to applaud that. Even when they missed out on the Gaunt memory, Hagrid's half-brother and the epic battle (and Hagrid's CMOA) near the end of the book.

The cinematography seems to be the issue that most reviewers seem to have with it, but I say that it's a load of bullshit. True, it's mostly monochromatic, but it perfectly emphasizes the series' transition from lighthearted and fun to dark and edgy quite well. Unless you've forgotten that Rowling goes completely homicidal from Book 4 onwards.

I'm just saying that the reviewers are giving little credit to what is actually a damn fine movie.

EDIT: Oh, and I agree that the movie was way too unsubtle about the relationships.

And that is why i never compare a book and a movie. If i go to see a movie based on a book i have read i just try to wipe the book from memory because there is no way your going to be completely happy with it. I would spend less time comparing it to the book and more time looking at the movie itself.

That's a shame, because the movies improved considerably once that hack Columbus was given the boot.

Ever since the third, these films have been increasingly well done. This one, however, improves on things to a degree such that even the nit-pickiest of nit-picky fans won't be able to find anything to complain about. Mostly. (note: Upon reviewing some forum posts, not here, I find I am wrong. They still find plenty to ***** about.)

Far and away the most dialogue-heavy of the films, key scenes are pulled off well by actors that in the past have occasionally, if far away from being bad, been a bit plain.

Complaints about the film adaptations of these books often revolve around the lack of the little touches of the magical world that add to the general atmosphere. It's not a totally unfair complaint; not one that I would always agree with, but still. In this film, though, we get everything from a visit to Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes to pygmy puffs, along with other sly touches that book fans will recognize. Nice bits that were not in the book include scenes set in the 'real' world, especially one of the opening scenes with Harry waiting for Dumbledore; I've been a big fan of similar scenes from the previous films. A particular favorite was the wizard sitting in the Leaky Cauldron at the beginning of Prisoner of Azkaban, reading a copy of Stephen Hawking's History of the Universe.

My biggest complaint would be the soundtrack, or more accurately, the lack thereof. As I said, the film is very dialogue-heavy, and loooong stretches go by without even a peep of background music.

Book fans are stricter in this sense, myself included. I wanted more history, less snogging too, yet I think it covered enough to get by - for now - for the more casual fan.
Works just fine for less casual fans too, at least as far as this one is concerned. They covered what they needed to. Actually a good deal more than I expected them to.

I both like and loathe going to these movies with other HP fans, as while it's nice to go with other people who enjoy the book series, it's absolutely obnoxious to listen to 20 minutes of "OMG THEY'VE RUINED EVERYTHIIIING" in regards to every omission or add-on.

I've read the books and seen the movie and, I'll admit it lacked some of the complexity but it was still largely true to the source. I felt the quidich bit could have stood a bit of expanding. After all why put it in there if you only show the resolution. overall it captured the most important parts and is worth seeing in my opinion.

I feel the problem with the movie was that it was too accurate to the source for a movie.

No dodo1331 no it isn't. I was at a loss for words when I saw that it wasn't.
Review was lacking, I must say I quite liked the movie and I believe the colour and CGI was on purpose.

But I thought the 'event' at hand was in the next book!!! That was so... emotional, awesome, fantastic and one of the best moments in the book. I cannot believe they left it out of the movie, holy SHIT!!!!

Anyways, I quite liked the movie, I thought it was one of the best in the series. The romance was a bit overbearing and the action was fairly lacking, when it wasn't happening, but overall a good movie!
