They have finished it fully, but decided to move it from October to July to make it a summer hit so more people will go see it, which is the DUMBEST THING I have EVER heared. Yeah like HP fans are gonna go and say, "Oh no HP being released in October and it'll be slightly cold if we go see it. Oh I'll just wait until the summer or not see it at all." As if people NEVER go see films because it's a bit cold.

How stupid are these people who decide these things?
summer releases generate more money because more of the targeted audience are free from school, ex. children aren't in school so they have more free time to see it.
OMG. Aren't you people understanding that fans of HP WILL GO SEE IT NO MATTER WHEN THE HECK IT COMES OUT. And people who have not seen any of the HP films before WILL GO SEE THE FIRST HP FILM. That's why a summer release of HP is SO STUPID!
Im a business/marketing major I know what the hell I'm talking about, its not about making some money, its about making ALL of the money. Why half-ass the process that's been tested and tried for the entirety of movie making. Most kids go to school correct? School is important to focus on correct? school goes on in October correct? HP is for kids about the age of middle/early high school correct? then if you release it when school or other winter obligations are around you get more of your audience even the "non hardcore" fans therefore you generate more profit by gathering a larger audience you dunce. get the hell over it and watch twilight and curl your hair until then!
Ha ha...ha...ha...wait I think there's one more....nope that's about it. Look I agree releasing A FILM (which has NOT had previous installments before) in the summer is the best time to do so. But to release HP and the Half Blood Prince (WHICH IS THE SIXTH, SIXTH NOT FIRST INSTALLMENT, IN THE SERIES) in the summer is just STUPID because people who have never seen HP, will want to see the VERY FIRST installment of the film and NOT the SIXTH. SIXTH, it's the one that comes after the FIFTH, which comes after the FOURTH, which comes after the THIRD, which comes after the SECOND, which come after the FIRST. Got it?

So suck it up and admit that you guys messed up BIG TIME.
what the hell are you talking about? I'm sorry you got your business and marketing degree at what gutter-grade school?
The point of the movie is not the number of installments its in relation of time and how many people are able to view it. If you cant see it because you need to focus on school your going to focus on school.
How did I screw up? your not backing any of it up, your not even applying logic.
OK see there are these things called WEEKENDS. This is a period of the week when people have free time and can mostly do whatever they wish. Now if HBP came out in October as planned I can assure you that all real HP fans would go see it on the WEEKEND. Now unless stupid, why would people who have NEVER seen Harry Potter start off with the SIXTH film? People who have never seen it would want to start off with the FIRST film and work they're way up IN ORDER.

Remind me, which episode did they start with for Star Wars? And how successful was that franchise?
This is HARRY POTTER we're talking about, not Star Wars.

Me and my sister are of the opinion that it makes more sense to release it in July because Harry's birthday is in July, and almost every book/movie starts with Harry's birthday.

No.
Harry Potter 1 is for 11 year olds, Harry Potter 2 is for 12 year olds and so on.
The books anyway.

Also, its for anyone.

If I can wait for Brawl I can definitely wait for the next Harry Potter movie so it doesn't bother me unless they show the whole movie in the bloody trailer.

As to moving it to the summer period, I don't know why either unless they have some graph that shows more people watch movies in the summer or something.

that's middle school through high school age, it depends on where your from though so your in the ball park. You can follow along! We have one person who understands.
My point as to get the targeted audience the problem being with the audience is that they are young enough to be in school and have other distractions during that part of the year so a summer release would allow a larger % of them to show up and see the movie.

my overall point is that this is a legitimate and profitable strategy

Why is it so stupid though? If you're a fan then the only way it affects you is by letting you see it earlier so there's nothing wrong with that. And, as the movie is already finished, its not like you'll miss out on cut content.
WHAT? Earlier? What are you talking about? HPHBP was set to be released in October 2008, now it's for July 2009.

And it's stupid because this was done to make more money, which IT WON'T. Even if this was done and it did SOMEHOW make extra money we would still be really angry. But the thing is it wont and we have to wait an extra 9 months for NOTHING.
but based on your logic all of the HP fans are hardcore extremists who will see it anyway and the market is pretty much cold to how you feel as long as you put out money they will still generate the same amount of money.

OK weekends are fine but they still don't generate the same amount of money that the summer releases do.
they don't want just "all real HP fans" they want as many people as possible. The more people that view the movie the more $$$ they generate. Therefore you make more money during a summer release.

Yeah, I'd rather see Bluebacon eat his own chin than go see the new Harry Potter movie.

I'd much rather see Harry Potter and the Half-Black Chick (cookie for the reference)

I understand that summer releases generate the most money. But what I want to know is why they would do that to a SIXTH installment of a movie series? If people do want to go and introduce themselves to the Harry Potter series, they would go see the VERY FIRST Harry Potter film NOT the sixth film.

I think that this is a marketing plan that works more or less the same no matter when the movie is released. The movie is still the same, if you cant wait, read the books a few thousand times.
