I only read the first four books. I'll confess, I thought Prisoner of Azkaban (or however that's spelled) was actually pretty good. It wasn't a tome of adjectives and terrible pacing that became the selling point for the fourth book and presumably every book thereafter. It was brisk and engaging. Something that was missing from the first two books, and wasn't repeated in the fourth.
Agreed. The Prisoner of Azkaban was probably the best.
It gave the series a dark tone for the first time, but nowhere near as dark as the end, which was quite dismal for a children's book.
Personally, I've read the series, and I quite liked it. Mind you, I'm more into concepts than writing techniques. She grabbed a part of my imagination, and twisted it to her liking. And that's why her books are so popular. They'll never be classics, but they will inspire children to read.
I do have to say that the first 3/4 of the last book dragged on, unending. So I agree with you there.
P.S. Love the pic.
