So, having watched the last Harry Potter movie twice I've started thinking of the possibilities of Harry Potter games.

Now, we all know that there already exist some Harry Potter movie-licensed games and there might even be some spin-offs, I'm not sure. However, I'm thinking of something else that isn't movie licensed.

I think that it would be cool with a Harry Potter RPG, taking place years after the books/movies ended. Hogwarts is huge so there will be plenty of explorations, and the universe is perfect for an RPG, with diffrent Houses giving diffrent perks and you would be able to become better in certain areas of magic and what not. Just like any other RPG.

Tell me, what do you think of Harry Potter games? Could one create an AAA Harry Potter game? Do you have an idea for a Harry Potter video game? It's most likely to suck [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_221/6582-Why-Your-Game-Idea-Sucks], but we love you so share it anyway.

Wizard school looks great to me!

I think the idea of a large Harry Potter based rpg would be amazing. Creating your character, getting sorted into a house and... sorta Elder Scrolls style, whatever you do affects how the rest of the game would be played. You could chose to be proficient in different magic areas, even. That'd be a great idea.

Wonder why they haven't done that, yet...

That would be amazing, this thought crossed my mind last evening while watching the last movie. It'd just be such a wonderful world to be a part of and you could have a variety of good/evil sort of choices that might change the route of the story. Though I think there would have to be some sort of plot to pull it all together into a finished product -- unless your thinking of an MMO RPG?

The only two games close to that are the GBC ones, which are pretty good.

Sorry Gameboy Color, The first two books where on the Gameboy Color and they were RPG's. Not the level of what you were talking about but they weren't bad for a movie tie in game (In fact it wasn't that bad at all).

I remember playing the first two games on the PC. I don't know if they're like the GBC version at all, but the freedom players had in that was always pretty awesome, to me. I really enjoyed those games. Would love to get them again for nostalgia's sake...

They made that. [http://jayisgames.com/archives/2010/09/academagia_the_making_of_mages.php] Of course, it would never work as an AAA title, but...

Yeah it's shocking how well they turned out for a movie based game on the gameboy, mostly that would mean it would be crap haha.

I agree with the statement that the Harry potter books would make a great elder scrolls style rpg ...

Also I would love to see a decent quidditch game with the distinct roles ( seeker beater etc) having different mechanics and if done well it would be super amazing would be very easy to screw up though heck I would settle for a management game with a
Quidditch twist

I would love to see a Harry Potter RPG in the hands of Bethesda or Bioware. I would definitely play that. I remember playing The Sorcerers Stone on my PC and that game was awesome.

The Philosophers stone for PS1 and the second book (what's the name?) for the PS2 were bitchin games

I would like it if they made an open world game like infamous but replaced lightening with spells
Camber of Secrets. And yeah, awesome games.

I loved the first couple of games.

I understand the desire to play through Hogwarts but I think that, for me, it's enough to read the books annually.

It's an exercise in nostalgia, and I may have to give it up one day (or start earlier in the year) as my Christmas break will get shorter once I'm a big kid, but oh well.

I thought about doing a game like that if I ever got into the business.

I'd call it Hogworts. It would start the very same day the last chapter of the last book takes place one. The train ride there would be a kind of tutorial where you can make your character. Your actions there would determine what house you were in.

Then you'd get into school and you'd do a set number of missions and lessons (plus sidequests) before advancing to the next season or school year. Haven't figured out how that would work. maybe you'd have to take a test before advancing?

Eventually a third wizarding war starts up and your seventh year is Deathly Hallows all over again, just without Voldemort. Your actions in previous years determine whether you fight to defend Hogwarts, or help bring take it over.

I would play the hell out of that game. As long as Harry Potter himself doesn't get shoved down my throat whenever I play the game, I would love it.

A lot of people have already said it but hell yeah! Harry Potter RPG be it MMO or otherwise. I would prefer it if it's single player but anyway, you could probably do more with it if you set it in the future but you would have more familiar faces if you set it in the past (ie: your characters final year would have to be during Harry's 3rd AT THE LATEST)
