I don't really cry over games (or any media) that much, although I have come close, and I do tend to get pretty emotionally invested in a good game.

The only games I can remember shedding tears over are Shadow of the Colossus, Heavy Rain (during some of the trials), and FF VII: Crisis Core. That last one was brutal.

In Mass Effect 2:
When both Tali and Garrus had died at the last mission I see a sad and lonely Shepard carefully touch his former comrades coffins, silently thanking them for the time they had together.

Most recently, Fable III.

When you're moving through the desert, after leaving the blinded Walter behind, and the darkness makes you fight him?

Then again at the end. Gah.

I recently got Street Fighter II for my xbox (despite still having it for SNES), and took to the painstaking task of getting through to Bison. It was so incredibly difficult for me, when before I could finish it on the hardest difficulty with relative ease. So I recently returned to this pivotal childhood game, and after quite a struggle, finally beat Bison with Chun Li (of course). To just see that ending sequence that I hadn't seen in at least a decade, it was like the same feeling you get from returning to your old elementary school or something; haunting, but with a sense of sobering joy. There's just a whole cascade of consciousness when you return to these kinds of things that can be pretty emotional. For instance, my sister hasn't touched a game since the GameCube was released, and yet it was her who I would pass the controller to when we were younger, whenever I got to Ryu, Ken, and Sagat because I just couldn't beat them. Such a simple memory weighed heavily on me though during this replay. I probably would have started to bawl if my sister wasn't on the couch beside me :3.

It may not be a direct result of the game alone, but I think this just solidifies the fact that games can impact people in a powerful way.

Constantly, more than any other media actually.
The one that stands out in my mind is Okami, the ending of that game makes me cry every time I think about it.

I usually don't cry the first time I play a game oddly enough, normally I'm mostly unaffected till my second playthrough, I hear someone else talk about how the game made them feel, I'm listening to the game music from an emotional scene or I take a few minuites to think about a particular scene later on the implications hit me and I start crying,
I think I may be emotionaly stunted or somthing.

Mother 3 had me shed a tear. That ending was pretty powerful stuff, and that song still gets me deep down.

Recently though, no. I did, however, come really close while playing NieR... several times. This song just about did me in.

have only ever cried (well was a bit teary) when i played mass effect 2. this was during my first playthrough and at the last stage i lost thane during the battle. it was sad because i had fought so hard to try to keep everyone alive and had grew really fond of him :( bastard collectors...the next playthrough i made damn sure he stayed alive. you're not going to die twice on me *****!!!

but in all seriousness full credit to bioware for making me able to connect to a collection of polygons on such an emotional level. unfortunatly haven't cried (well a bit teary) from a game since. but i think it's only a matter of time before games a really able to create and perform the kind of drama that affects us on such a level.

The first part of Mass Effect 2, where Shepard is able to get Joker to a lifeboat before he gets sucked into the vacuum of space.

Three games made me very close to bawling my eyes out: The good ending for BioShock 1 & 2, and the ending for Fable 3.

To add more to my overly simplistic answer, I have never cried during any video game. There is just something about it being a video game that nullifies any emotion that might come from any moment of sadness.

Games, no.

Movies, almost.

Oh my god, I found both instances so horrible! (well executed though) They were both heart wrenching, creepy and haunting. But in a way, I love them for that.
I was a wreck hours after I beat the game though.

Silent Hill 2; the "Leave" ending. The letter-reading is a bit drawn-out, but after going through the entire experience with James and having the resolution it provided, it was really moving.

Other than that, I've come close in a few RPG's and other games but never actually cried.
I'm confused... are you subtly denying the existence of one?
Oh wait, crap, I meant 4 lol. All 4 xD.

right then lets get this one out of the way

anyway, since i couldn't be bothered to list something someone wouldn't even read about or care about

*insert a list of vns and kinetic novels here*

ill just go on with the rest of my list now.

note i didn't cry at these ones, i did to the vns and such, but not to the games, mind you i was very upset at these.

terranigma

you win then you loose everything, that is all

persona 2 innocent sin

You loose..... i wont go into any more details than that incase anyone does play it later but.... you loose

persona 2 eternal punishment

was upset but out of disappointment and earache from the bad dub. tell me when you hear them say its getting bigger in that voice you didnt just say gigity.

there are alot of others, but they have seem to have slipped my mind right now. ill post those later.

Yes. In the pokemon Mystery dungeon series, where you (I guess it should be spoiler but you probably know this already) return to the human world/get erased from time after you had finished the main part of the story, and the first credits start. I think the fact that I knew this beforehand and didn't expect it to be as well written probably helped me in that respect.
Yeah me too, it was the only time i've ever really felt anything for the characters.

Deadliest warrior; deadliest difficulty, i cried out of how pissed i was from the difficulty, but i cried my way through the last 2 battles.

also, the good ending to bioshock 2 didn't make me cry, but my eyes got a bit misty. i put down the controler because the only reason to play through a bioshock a second time is to be an evil bastard, and the good ending made me NOT do that.
