I've been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead 2 and have gone from zero desire to see Louisiana to a real curiosity about the place and culture.
- I would also say some levels on Sonic Adventure (DC) and the add-on for Age of Empires II (PC) were responsible for a trip I took to Mexico to see the Aztec ruins. Where I made sure to stop by Mexico City because of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (Xbox 360).
- Playing Xevious (Arcade) as a kid has always made me want to see the Nasca lines.
- Endless Ocean (Wii) reminds me of snorkling in Palau.
- Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360) made me want to see New York.
- Playing Super Runabout (DC) meant I knew the rough street layout of San Francisco before I'd even arrived.
- I played my friends copy of Test Drive Unlimited (Xbox 360) to relive a trip to Hawaii.
- And Professor Layton (DS) always reminds me of Europe and Shen Mue (DC) of rural Japan.
- Safari Race. A terrible racing game back on an 8-bit system was the original inspiration for a trip I took to Africa.
Has a game ever made you want to travel somewhere? Space obviously, perhaps Japan and maybe even through time. But are there real world locations, or cultural icons you want to see or visit because you saw them first in a game?
