Soldier of Fortune. Shoot a guy in the leg and he grabs his leg and starts screaming. One time, my sadistic friend was repeatedly shooting a guy in the limbs and I was going, "Enough! Please! Put him out of his misery already!" Disarm a guy and he'll beg for his life. I usually don't have the heart to shoot him then.

Bad for? Yes. Bad about killing? Not really. It is truly tragic what happened to Saren, but he is still a crazed loon bent on bringing the engine of galaxy wide genocide back from exile. So I feel no regret after putting a bullet in his face.

(I do not count the Russian civilians in "No Russian" as enemies. They were more like the civilians later in the game only without the game over when you shot them though I did feel bad when I killed them. The Russian police in that level pushed it but once someone shoots back I feel much less bad about pulling the R1 button.)

I kinda felt bad once while playing Red Dead, i was trying to avoid killing people so i would often be shooting them in the legs and arms till they tried to crawl away... then i realized most of them are going to die of infections instead... i started shooting them in the head right after to make it end sooner

In mass effect 1 where you have to choose between letting Kaidan or Ashley die. I really struggled because I needed Ashley (she's a soldier, good in a scrap) but I persued the relationship with Kaidan (I had a girl char). That decision was the biggest one for me in mass effect.

Then in ME2 when you have to choose which tech specialist to go through the vents in the final act, none of my tech specialists (well, the ones who would survive the trek anyway...) were loyal enough so i had to choose which one to sacrifice... That was a tough decision too

Dragon Age Origins, I couldn't decide between the Elves or the Werewolves. I wanted to side with the wolves cause they are badass but I had quests to turn in with the elves. It was my first play through and I never reload saves in the first go-round, I find it ruins the fun knowing what will happen.

A certain game involving a rage filled man named Kratos. Sacrificing the poor soldier just to get ahead.

My brother cackled the whole way as the dude was saying he had kids. I was like...D: i really dont want to do this....

Yeah, i know, not exactly an enemy, but still. If its an innocent person i have to kill, i feel completely horrible.

Poor, poor pixel people.

Metal Gear Solid is the series that comes to mind. Especially in MGS3 when you talk to Johnny in the prison cell and learn about his wife and kids.

There is a Bit in Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare... where you have to kill like 6 Sasquatches in the woods. Not cool Rockstar... Not cool. What did Sasquatch ever do to you.

Kind of... in persona 4 when you see the pc's inner-selves then have to fight the shadow them, because of the whole chat before that bit, it made me kinda sad about fighting the shadow them's, as I wanted to talk more, not fight (so it's more feeling sad because I was enjoying the conversation, not that I felt sympathy or something) I guess that kinda suits this topic

Hmmm...
I felt kinda bad beating up Algalon, except you don't really kill him, so that doesn't count.
I felt bad killing the good guys that used to be on your side in Ogre Battle 64, except I'm not sure they die, and I still have no idea why the attack me, so fuck em.
The only time I can think of that I felt bad for my enemies was the first Covenant lvl in Halo 2 where you are there to "purge the heretics" because in the end, you would have been good buddies with them... they just wanted out of the religion =/

Usually when I kill something, its hilarious like killing grunts, or blowing the torso off a guy in Borderlands with a well placed sniper shot.
Even when I am killing a "good guy", I either say "fuck you! you're a dick for attacking me!" (ANY FUCKING GUARD IN OBLIVION) or their reasons for attacking me is something stupid.

...made you feel bad about killing its enemies?

While I've felt a little twinge occasionally killing, for example, grunts in Halo, or some of the classes in TF2, before today I'd never really felt that bad. But earlier, in a game of Brutal Legend, I found myself actually feeling for the guys I was killing.

The guy I was against was using Ironheade and had a group of headbangers attacking one of my merch booths (the resource gathering buildings, if you haven't played it) and I flew over there and killed them. Now the characters in this game are always bursting with personality, but as I killed the last guy I heard him say "sorry about all the blood, guys" before collapsing, and I actually did feel pretty awful.

I mean, it's a game, but still, have you had any situations where a game had such good characterization that you actually felt bad about killing its enemies?
Holy shit, you actually got a multiplayer game working on Brutal Legend! How did you do it?

OT: I remember a similar situation where I was playing against the cpu on Brutal Legend. I was Drowning Doom (I don't like the side, but damn it I'm good with them) and I was fighting Ironheade when one of the enemy headbangers said "Why are you doing this Ophilia?" Oof, that was quite appropriately depressing.

I played through that zone twice, and when you're supposed to choose between helping the Wizard and helping the Wolves, I chose the Wizard's side once just to see what would happen.
FUCK THAT SHIT. Not only is the fight SOOOO MUCH HARDER, but the guy is a dick about it afterwards!
Choosing the Wolves from now on.

I was going to say 'No', but then I started to think about it... and I did come up with a brief moment of "Why, gods, why?"
And, I swear, this is absolutely true.
Raz, running through the camp, accidentally lit a passing squirrel on fire, and I was heartbroken. "Oh, shit, I didn't mean to do that!"
Only to hear Raz quip, "The little rat deserved it." Or something to that effect, and realized it left behind meaty treats, and it refilled your life ever so slightly. Ad from that point on, all the squirrels were served en flambe for what they did to Dogen.

The clearest one I can remember would be in Vampire: The Masquerade.

At one point in the game you are captured by a corporation/paramilitary group that experiments on you to figure out what myths on vampires are truth or bullshit. The first few tests are fire, electricity, gas, but then one test is just a guy holding up a cross. After seeing it not affect you, he drops the cross and runs screaming. The game will not let you proceed until you kill him. Why would I attack him? I played a more-or-less good guy to that point, why do I want to kill him? He could've just been some poor schmuck who pissed off the boss and had no idea what was going on. Clearly wasn't a threat at all...

I feel bad every playthrough.
Huh. That's actually one of the few I embrace. Maybe it's because I was familiar with the New World of Darkness lineup of books before I played the V:TM Bloodlines game, and quickly gained a soft spot for the re-imagining of Hunters, but I really dug the idea of an organization that would attempt to scientifically determine the weaknesses of a monster, and as such, really got into the idea of a monster who understood the implications of this and went out of their way to break shit.

Then again, I also almost always chose Malkavian or Nosferatu in that game.

Honestly, if you pick either side, instead of the super-saccharine "everybody wins" third option, you made the wrong choice.
