I just picked this up today and it is a full history lesson on why my childhood, despite the Pokemon era and handheld renaissance, was pretty unimaginative in terms of video game ideas. I mean Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time were pretty awesome, but in terms of sheer off the wall game design ideas I've never seen a game like Comix Zone. Or J-RPGs that are quite like Shining Force or the original Phantasy Star games. It's like while I was growing up to primary school age I missed a ton of bizarre games that I would have loved as a child but was just unaware they existed. And I was probably too young to play them too.

I love this Mega Drive Collection disk, not because I've ever played ANY of these games before but because to me they're so fresh and new even though they are ten years old in some cases. I will try and unlock Shinobi 1 if I can, but for now I will get to play pre-3D Sonic games. ^___^

I've played a lot of them on the computer and on Gametap. I thought about rebuying the games but I couldn't. Too much false difficulty and no Sonic Three and Knuckles combination.

Nope. The only games on it I want that I don't have already (all the Sonic games, Ristar, Ecco, Altered Beast, and Vectorman) are the Phantasy Star and Shinobi games.

Huh...I thought Dynamite Headdy was on the collection. And yet Decap Attack made it?! That's halfway to sacrilege.

Out of curiosity, did the Open Ocean zone freak you out, too? Or am I the only one?

On my copy it has Dynamite Headdy, I guess they are different for different regions.

I also like the idea of playing 6 J-RPGs with nary an emo angstbucket male protagonist in the things. Clearly the Mega Drive Era of J-RPGs was the time in the genre when real men walked the Earth.

Of course I have it!! Bought it on release day. Sonic, Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, Golden Axe, awesome games! It even includes a game I had always tried to find but was never able to buy before. Good stuff.

The whole game freaked me out. It was the whole getting darker as you get deeper thing and running out of air, and frickin' aliens. I never realised how crazy that game was 'til I went back and replayed it recently. God knows how I understood what to do back in the day.

I do really want that game. Would definatly bring back some good memories alot of good titles on there. Alot cheaper than buying them off the XBL arcade to.

There could have been a few more games on the disk but apart from that it looks amazing.

No, but I'm going to get it when it's a bit cheaper so I can douse myself in nostalgia over the Summer break. It does look a good mix.
