Has anyone else here actually migrated from console gaming to PC gaming?

I knew, years ago, that buying sale games on Steam is many times cheaper than buying console games retail, or even Direct-to-Drive. I saved up for a desktop, got (what I thought) was a reasonable package deal, and even though I usually have to tone done the visuals (hey, let's see you do better with twelve hundred dollars and no starting components!), I haven't really looked back.

I legally own over a hundred games on Steam, and have spent, at my estimate, less than three hundred dollars. That would have gotten me six games on consoles. Even factoring in the cost of the desktop, bringing it to fifteen hundred, I'd be looking at a console and thirty games, if that. I've heard that games are where consoles make their money before, but looking at the numbers really drives the point home, and illustrates how a PC is a much more efficient investment.

Anyone else with me, here?

I recently migrated in the opposite direction from PC to Xbox. Can't fault the argument about the difference in markets though, a mild annoyance for me is that the only available online market is controlled by the manufacturer (same with my PSP), whereas the PC market is much freer (I heartily recommend Good Old Games if you haven't signed up already, btw). It's not terrible for me as I'm willing to pay for it, but I do miss the variety and better value.

That said, I'm doing a PhD now so I have less spare time to fix my PC when it invariably goes wrong. Once my PhD is over I'll probably save up for a proper gaming rig and store data, work etc on a separate netbook.

I kinda went back. I was both for a long time alternating between the commodore 64 and the NES then I was almost console exclusive. Lately I've been more of a PC gamer buying most of my games on Steam.
I still need to upgrade so I can play Skyrim smoothly on my puter.
Have you tried Baldurs Gate yet?

That just sounds nasty to put rim and puter so close. At least I took out the cum.

I walked that road. Started off with Nintendo consoles all the way up to the Gamecube, my last console love. Then the Wii came out and I realized my steady IV drip of great games ran dry with Twilight Princess. Hopped over to PC gaming and I've been searching for great unknown games ever since. Makes me feel like a gamer AND an archaeologist.

I did, years ago and have never loooked back. I also managed to convince my friends to follow me and now they don't touch console games.

I've gone from PC to CONSOLE, to CONSOLE to PC, PC to CONSOLE, CONSOLE to PC and now im somewhere in the middle but i mostly use the PC.

Mostly because i love the RTS genre which plays better than CONSOLE at the moment, ENDWAR was nice but good enough.

Also STEAM has made me play on the PC longer because of easier access to games.

I would like to be a pc gamer after buying a new desktop, but i can't afford the funds for a while to make it up to scratch, though i'm considering doing it just before skyrim comes out, because i want to experience that game like it was intended to.

I do think though that PC only gamers are missing out on quite a lot of good games.

While I still have and love my consoles, and I have always had a computer, I'll write that last father's day, I upgraded to a gaming class PC capable of running most directX 10 games at 30 FPS on medium settings. Not great, but very good for when kids have over run the family room, causing me to retreat to my mancave.

Yes. I'm regularly astonished at how I can pick up games for less than a fiver but it does limit me to small titles and games over five years old. Not a bad thing as it turns out as my laptop can rarely cope with a game's minimum requirements even on its lowest setting. The usual culprit is Batman: Arkham Asylem. It must be the high detail in most environments. Pretty but I'm sure my weedy processor plots to kill me...

I really only did because Steam was released for the mac. I still prefer playing on a console to a computer, save with valve games.

I was an avid player of both, but the traditionally console-only genres that I enjoyed of platformers and 'spectacle fighters' (as Yahtzee calls them) have mostly died out or become less interesting in recent years. Meanwhile, every 360 release I've cared about has been multiplatform on the PC. I did still pick up a 360 on a Black Friday deal a bit back to get my Soul Calibur on, but that's literally the only reason I bought it.

Besides, PC is inarguably the go-to platform for the indie/free2play game market.

Playing console games on my new PC. I should look up for a controller soon.

Did you really just ask if people agree that the PC is the master race on a site dominated by massively hardcore PC gamers, who have had a tendancy to loudly voice how much better the PC is than the console? Yeah, this thread will be a shocker....

Just another point, this thread has been done atleast 12 times (no, I don't keep track) since I started here.

All I can ever say is, I much prefer console to PC. I even had my brother build me a custom gaming PC for a little over £330 and I don't use it that much. I am upgrading it at the moment to play some games, mainly RTS.

I play RTS on PC 'cos I firmly belive RTS should never be on a console, you just can't do it. I played C&C red alert on PS1 and sweet geezus was that a chore to do, good thing there is a cheat for a nuke so you can nuke spam all game long.

For anybody about to quote me saying FPS should also be PC exclusive, don't bother 'cos it's just no.

EDIT: I don't want to come across as nasty or mean but you it's like you just went to a KKK meeting and asked who is a racist (not saying PC gamers are as bad as racists! ... keep digging drunken pikachu)
