Has anyone else noticed the drop in standard of the Escapist forums?

The mods on this site, seem to do a very good job. I have seen a little bit of some of the things you mentioned, but they have mostly been dealt with quickly.

I'm a bit of a newbie here. So if I'm in any part responsible for the decline in quality, then sorry.

I've noticed a decline as well, but not in the matter of which you speak. The decline I've noticed is in the very topics of discussion themselves.

Surely, there's got to be some game-related field of conversation that isn't "NPCs just crashed your party; what do?" or "hottest RPG sidekcick" or whatever hypothetical nonsense these children are coming up with. The feel regressive, and I can't help but wonder if there's not some better topic we could be exploring

Huh. All I saw was crappier threads, worse spelling and lot's of older members leaving or getting banned.
But above all: Less interesting threads.

Actually I find the lack of freedom of speech to be the worst bit, the moderators are dropping the ban hammer when you don't agree with them

If you are trolling you should be moderated
If you are specifically attacking users you should be moderated
If you post low content then you should be moderated

Over the last few months I have been moderated for; a sex joke, saying religion is insanity, saying I won't ad to another freaking "the last x is now Y" and saying some advice to someone, which I did in the same situation.

I'm actually starting to believe that moderators don't want users on this site with the amount of bans going around. The worst thing is the feedback though

When I have deserved moderating I didn't dispute it. When I didn't deserve it I complained several times and not a single PM back. I've been here nearly 2 fucking years and that doesn't even qualify a PM? If any moderator wanted my help with anything ever, I would automatically say no because I have lost all respect for them

These forums are constantly changing.

When people join, they join due to the appeal the forum might have at a specific point in time.

The forums are constantly changing, and so will lose that appeal.

Hence, everyone perceives a 'drop in quality' eventually.

I think the term 'link or it didn't happen' applies rather firmly here. I have yet to see any unpunished racism or homophobia. Yes, in threads discussing it there may be some examples but this can be expected when on such a controversial topic. Even then it's a rarity for the comment to go unpunished, whether the punishment be from the community telling them that their attitude is wrong or a suspension.

And flaming, I hate it when people get flaming wrong. Thankfully you seem to know what it is. However, while I do see the occasional 'you're an idiot' when someone is quite clearly portraying the attitude of a common fool, I wouldn't say that actual flames are ignored. The comments about people's intelligence is generally in the right place and usually has a large response from the community saying 'hold on a minute, he might be an idiot but you could be a little bit less dickish'.

There is always going to be a couple of things that slip through the net of the Mods or the community, with the staggering amount of posts every day it would be humanly impossible to catch each bad post, especially when they're open to opinion on whether they're actually bad or not.

Like I say, links or it didn't happen. I think you're just exaggerating the current situation, however.

but seriously, getting put on Probation for a short post? Really? Why is that a bad thing?
I think the issue with some small posts is that the content is nearing worthlessness, rather than them actually being short. As long as the post is worth reading then there shouldn't be any problem, no matter the length.

I've noticed a drop in the average age range over the past couple years, with a corresponding increase in posts exposing enflamed youthful passion, and "grammeritikal muhrder."

Sorry for what? The people you are saying sorry to do not own this site or pay for it in anyway. You should feel free to post and comment as you wish as long as you do not break any of the rules stated in the thread. An please don't call yourself a "newbie" it sounds so negative. We are all equal on this site and just because you have not been on this site long or have a comment count in the thousands doesn't mean you have less worth. It's quality over quantity my friend.
Thank you. I won't be so negative from now on.
I just wanted to make sure that people know, that if I do anything annoying. It's not on purpose.

Whoops, my fault. I'm new.

Although really, considering some of the things I've seen people smacked with a few days of probation for, I'm amazed this can be considered lax. I've censored my opinions here several times for fear of moderator wrath...

I really haven't seen anything like that here lately. Though I haven't been posting that much as of late.

Really? I've only seen a dozen or so blatantly prejudiced posts, and most of those were against religious groups. That, and they got probation/suspension/banishment anyways.
