Has anyone else noticed the drop in standard of the Escapist forums?

What the hell? I haven't seen any of that shit except for the flaming(in small amounts)

The moderators are pretty good at their job here. I've only seen someone get banned for racism and homophobia a few times in my year-long stay here.

The only thing I've noticed is a rash of 'the last thing you killed' threads, which rapidly wore thin and unimaginative to the point where your now a piece of meat somehow related to a game through several stages of remove. Don't get it, never will, please stop making them. thanks.
Actually I'd say "You're a steak being eaten by the dog of the main character of the last game your sister played" is quite imaginative and requires a lot of thinking. I don't even know what game my sister played last...
(I still avoid those topics though)
None the less, all it comes down it is 'rare, medium or well done', or some extra levels of burnt or raw. All the convoluted crap in the question is pretty much irrelevant. So yeah, not impressed.

You know why there's a lot of dull, repeat threads? Because any point of view not held by the masses is reported until the user is moderated and everyone is too scared to be truthful. Too much moderation=boring forum.
You really can't be serious right? The problem too much moderation? Have you ever thought that maybe we ended up kicking out most of the people who advocated the use of the search bar (No matter how ineffective it was)? Its not a problem with moderators, its a problem with people not knowing what has been done before they post it.

1. Making fun of the French, or Americans is not racism. "American" is not a race, it's a nationality. Any true racism on the escapist is usually dealt with fairly quickly.
Regardless of whether or not it is or is not specifically "racism", all varieties of mindless bigotry are intolerable. Whether the bigotry stems from the delusion of "race" or from perceived culture ("nationality").

I think you have just seen too many distasteful threads. All in all The Escapist is a pretty tightly run ship with rule breakers being dealt with swiftly and justly.

The only thing I find irritating on the forums are little elitist wankers like you.

3. With so many gay/bi/transexual members on the escapist, most people are very tolerant, and the threads that aren't are quickly closed and the posters banned. Of course it doesn't happen instantly, but it does happen.
I know I gained alot more respect for this community after reading one of the recent Transexuals thread, as I didn't see anything but good will and curiosity towards our trans members.

So I don't see this as a trend, the only thing that has changed about the escapist is the sudden invasion of "your last X is your Y".

I'm going to let you evaluate my performance, but we never let any of that stuff slide. If it's not punished, you're not reporting enough.

No, not really. Of course I was never deluded enough to think that this site ever had any sort of intellectual superiority.

Of course if you are noticing violations to forum policy, you could just slam that little "REPORT" button or PM a mod directly. That probably would be more productive than making a thread about it. ...just saying.

Are we on the same website?
I see very, little.. Literally almost none of what you're talking about..
Every once in a blue moon i see some terrible spelling maybe? but no racism or homophobia.

This is the only website I've seen a thread about transsexualism handled in the most mature manner possible.

The moderators here are hardcore awesome at taking care of stupid things like that anyways.

If anyone feels this is true do what you can to maintain the maturity and general order of the escapist. It's a very unique place.

Yeah, I've seen trolling here, but I've never seen people be racist or homophobic on this website and get away with it.

When you say homophobia do you mean in the traditional sense or the psychologically diagnosable sense? Ok, I'm just dicking around, but I haven't really noticed this.

We noticed. But this is quite the fail troll since the community actually had a warm response. Yeah I chuckled ^^.

I have seen none of the things you wrote about. Maybe if you linked to a post where you actually saw these things I'd be willing to maybe agree with you a bit. Of course if you do notice these things somewhere in the forums it's your duty to report them so that we can be rid of them and keep up a high standard.

Honestly though I've not seen anything of the sort, never seen racism on here whatsoever, the same goes for homophobia, and trolling is a maybe though at most only a little bit and not enough to constitute a ban.

I've seen a lot of people who are getting banned and put on probation for posts that I saw as being not-too-bad. I've seen way worse forums than ours.

Heh...I thought this was going to be about people posting the same threads over-and-over. Or a complaint about people like me who post stupid/ irrelevant threads xD

I would love to know where you see homophobia on rare occasions do i see this and even then it's in a completly non-serious manner nor do i see serious racism often and on the very few occasions i do they are always banned however i don't see many obvious signs of hating other countries besides the usually americans are fat which in all honesty we do have the majority of obese people
