Has anyone ever tried mixing an RTS with an FPS?

Yes, this was inspired by that other topic about RTS and Beat em' up. Well, it triggered my memory... I remember thinking if sombody has ever made a game where one person could control an Army/Base/All that jass, while about 2-10 others control heros and strong units FPS style, and there are 2 teams with this type of control that battle it out. Hell, could be completely multiplayer, I have no idea how single player would work well. *Shrug* Just a thought.
More like Dynasty Warriors where you could tell your armies what to do but controlled a main hero, with a coop/versus element? But as an FPS instead?

The closest I can think of is the cancled Comand and Conquer: Tiberium.
Pretty much what I was gonna say. Why did they cancel it? It looked pretty awesome.
Does EA need a reason to do something bullshit and cheat people out of cool stuff?
On topic, C&C: Tiberium is the only one I can think of, too.

The upcoming Dust 514 has some RTS elements in it, I think. Look it up, it's an MMOFPS made by the folks who made EVE Online (thé sandbox MMO out there) and both games are apparently going to interact with each other. I can't wait for it.

I'm sure that this has already been said, but I don't feel like reading through 4 pages...
Raven Squad did something like this, I think.

Battlezone [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlezone_%281998_video_game%29]. And, of course, Battlezone 2

No, that's a squad based FPS. I mean a game in which one person controlls the units that would usually be NPCs and buildings RTS style while others control one "Hero" unit FPS style, maybe you could also have classes and such.

I am highly confused.

How would that work?...
Pretty much, two teams of around 4-12 each vote for their commander which will control the base/soldiers RTS style, while the others each control one unit (Maybe with classes or somthing) that is stronger than the normal soldiers FPS style, and then the teams battle it out to obliterate the enemy's base. That clear enough?

Dungeon Keeper 1 for the PC, 1997 was sort of like an RTS which allowed you to go into FPS mode while controlling your minions - Apparently the guy behind the Fable series had something to do with it:

Awesome game for its time. Shame the sequal sucked.

So like a tactical shooter? Ghost Reacon style?

C&C: Renegade, it sucked donkey balls.

Also Battlefield has some RTS elements in the games which work very well.

From what I've seen in Savage it's a bad idea, because it dumbs down both game types. Although I think it's not what you're looking for, the Battlefield 2 commander role is really awesome if you have a cooperative team. I really think they should build more on that, like with rewards for generals that take the commander's orders seriously.
