Yeah so I'm trying to start my own let's play channel and it is not even getting views. Im really just trying to put out feelers and I know there are a million people out there doing this but I plan to just keep at cos I enjoy gaming and if I can produce something at the same time then it's a bonus. Has anyone started one of these channels and how long did it take to get going or even get noticed?
I might post links later on when I have made a few more videos.
I'm thinking maybe playing more obscure games might be the way to go rather than the ones that everyone seems to be doing.
Anyone got any thoughts on these? Do you watch these channels? Advice? Ideas?

Play LoL, Acquire money and don't forget to disregard teammates. Seriously, there are channels that make money solely off LoL gameplay/commentary.

Speaking of LoL gameplay, i'mtotallynotadvertisingafriend'schannel

Featuring Eowyn making his trademark lvl 1 ill-advised facechecks and me kinda coasting on the rest of the team's efforts as the support.

I watch a few channels, basically anyone who plays anything interesting and is at least tolerable to listen to.

I like Wings' LoL stream whenever it's on Solomid. He taught people how to wreck Singed with Teemo inbetween games. Free Singed week... Hmmm.

I've started to upload some of my more unique bossfight videos in Dark Souls for fun, but apart from one video which someone posted on Reddit i haven't got a lot of views yet. The best way is probably posting it on some popular sites until hearsay is strong enough that you get some regulars.

Haven`t done any Let`s Plays myself (tho i do like to make a vid every now and then, and i snoop around YouTube a lot), but I´ve watched quite a few LP's. In my opinion, what makes a good Let`s Play is normal length ( like, 10-ish minutes or so ? Can`t really give a certain number) per episode, and the stuff that`s being talked about. The game can be awesome as well, but i mostly watch them for all that talking. So it better be interesting stuff. And silently awkward pauses are a definite no-no. Then again, others might watch LP's for the game, not the commentary or such.

Obscure games sounds good, but do make some about more popular games as well, I´m pretty sure those will help ya get more views and such. I think.

I don't get Lets Plays personally but they seem to live and die on the personality of the person doing them and how easily they are spread which is usually word of mouth (net)

My channel which just consisted of some Bulletstorm Echo vids (mainly to prove something to some people claiming my scores were impossible) generated a reasonable number of views but the only place I posted links were the main Bulletstorm forum.

You've already noticed the main problem with starting a channel, there are countless others doing the exact same thing and it is very unlikely that people will discover your channel at random so you'll need to do some shameless self promotion and hope it's something others will want to share. Although don't promote here as it is against the rules.

Dry and dour faced! :p I find I am chatting it up a bit more with each video tho so I suppose it's something I can work on. Thanks for the replies anyway guys! :) I used to vlog and it was so much easier getting views that way somehow but I was just talking crap so at least this way im doing something while talking crap... :p <3

I recently started my own channel. I recommend patience. Just be enthusiastic/natural about the games you play, it kills the mood when the commentator sounds like they are bored or overacting.

having a youtube lp channel myself, i would say that you should try and start off by making friends with other, bigger youtubers who do similar things to what you're doing, or look for small networks looking for directors. also, don't give up just because you don't get loads of views and subs, ive been doing this for almost a year and almost have 100 subs, it should be good as long as you dont give up. pm me on youtube (same as escapist name) if you want to talk about this more :)

I was going to try one, but I realized that it's actually a lot harder than it looks to be interesting while trying to play a game.

I started up my own Let's Play channel a few months ago. I've been told I have a pretty good voice for it and do decently, I just haven't updated in a while simply because... well, I just haven't had the motivation to make videos lately.

Linky-poo if anyone so desires:

^^ And this is the best advice I'd give too. Just act natural, don't scream at the top of your lungs constantly or act like you're bored and uninterested. Don't force yourself to be overly comedic or overly dramatic. Just be yourself.

Like you said there are literally millions of people trying to do the sam thing right now, and only a very small percentage will reach popularity in no discernible pattern that is just how these things work.

Perfectly displayed by PewDiePie as the biggest LP guy on youtube, and all people really come to see is someone screeching "rape" as he randomly runs through games...
