The left one is the Korean version, the right is the "censored" U.S./EU version
Oh man, that's like the "censored" Chinese Magic cards that wound up being more disturbing because flesh covered skeletons are creepier than just bones. The American one looks like she's wearing honest to goodness about-to-have-sex lingerie, while the Korean one looks more like a character in a traditional chain mail bikini.

OT: I've heard of it. There was an article on this site talking about how the devs are getting in trouble for taking materials they made while working on Lineage 3 and making this with them. Don't know much about it other than that and what I've seen in this thread, though, because I don't play MMOs.

TERA is gonna fall flat on its face for one reason: It's pay to play. Just like Elder Scrolls Online (there are other reasons for ESO, but that's a major problem with the games as it currently looks)

I play WoW often enough, plan to play GW2 when it comes out as well. Been really trying to expand my horizons, so I played Forsaken World, APB Reloaded, Everquest 2, and I went to TRY Rusty Hearts. Forsaken World looks like a solid game, but I'm fairly certain it's pay to win. APB Reloaded just felt really bland when I played it. Everquest 2 is just...really badly designed is really the only thing I can use to describe it. The quest system is meh, the leveling system is meh, the dialog system is abominable. No wonder you get some sort of bonus for reaching level 20 in less than two(?) weeks. Lastly, Rusty Hearts. I tried to play it, but I couldn't even get an account made. I tried 3 or 4 times and it never worked. It looked cool enough, but I don't think it's worth the effort.

I've heard about it. Looks decent aside from the jailbait race. Those little chubby animal dudes look fun, though.

But I'm not touching it. I don't subscribe to MMOs. I only play F2P. A rule of mine.

My entire experience with Tera Open Beta:
1) Rolled a Lancer
2) Walked to starting quest giver
3) Killed some Treants
4) Logged Out

It oozes childishness, I could barely find a camera angle that didn't have me looking up my Tank's shorty short skirt.

Waiting on GW2

I tried Tera and I didn't like it very much. Honestly, I thought everything was a mess where the dialogue between the npc's/quest-givers and your character were concerned. Then again maybe I am biased since I played W.o.W from it's release to Cataclysm and I am scared to find another MMO I actually enjoy. Also, D3 is coming , I don't have time for anything else! *foams at the mouth*

Just for giggles:

I've been enjoying it. First MMO that I've actually enjoyed, as I can't stand the "traditional" MMO style of combat.

I feel like this game would be getting a lot more attention if it was free to play. The combat looks great, I like the artstyle, it's gorgeous compared to other MMOs etc... but you cannot compete with WoW for subscriptions. You just can't. I don't know how many failed MMOs it's going to take for developers to realize that competing for subscriptions with WoW is a futile effort at best.

I would buy it if it weren't subscription-based, and I'm sure many others feel the same way.

I wasn't interested because of the subscription. With Guild Wars 2 being buy-to-play I don't think I could do a subscription MMO ever again. But I might have given Tera a try if it went free-to-play at some point. I might have done, until I saw the creepy race. That is messed up. Just looking through the artwork to that game makes me scared I'm going to be investigated by the secret police.

It's a shame, because the gameplay is quite solid by all accounts.

Heard a little about it. It doesn't peak my interest.

Got back into playing Star Trek Online last night. Reacquainting myself with my mystery alien science captain. He's still low level, he's commanding an old Constitution class called the Eureka-A. Purchased it with the 400 Cryptic points I got from subscribing for one month. The old sounding phaser arrays that come with it are cool because their power/dps levels with my character. The do get a little annoying after awhile because of how screechy that old sound effect is, but I really like them because the phaser color for them is blue instead of the normal orange.

There are things I wish they would fix, like the loot drop system. The player that gets the last hit in on an enemy ship gets the loot if any drops. So I can be in a grand battle with a large Klingon battleship and when it's down to the last couple of hits, anybody can just swoop in and get the last hit and the loot.

The space battles are what really makes the game fun for me; it's the starship battle system I've been waiting for.

I have been enjoying my time with Tera Online, but I have had some bad times with my account not giving me my 30 days free so I had to pay earlier then others to play which sort of is annoying to be honest. Also, to all of you who complain about the little girls, there are other races you can play and I am sure you would like it.

I actually find it hilarious how People go "Oh its totally that Pedo Game because one race out of like 7 looks kinda like a kid if i squint my eyes really hard". What kind of fail-logic is this? Are you people seriously implying that anyone who plays Tera is a Pedo? Even people who dont play as..whatever that race is, the fox-girls? Want a Idea of "Pedo" look up female dwarves in Lineage 2, that game is from 2003. Do it. Then come back and tell me when you fucking missed the train. Yeah it looks kinda like a kid compared to the rest, but how do you go from that to sexual attraction of minors? How ridiculously would it look to imagine a 10-year old Girl with a giant Warhammer about twice her size stomping weird monsters into the ground, no that cant be the appeal, its totally because people are sick and get off on imagining sexual stuff, right?

I could go longer with this rant but im not, lets just say you people, and you know who you are, make me sad, really. Now to get back on topic.

OT:

Heard of it, havent played it, saw some preview footage of it. Looks a bit like Aion without the flying stuff and the combat system from DCUO to be honest. It looks interesting enough but i probably wont play it unless it goes F2P. With all the recent F2P Games on the market, which are pretty damn good, i cant really justify paying monthly for one with as many choices as i have already.

Same reason i dont play TOR really, its just not worth it if i can get the same, or better content for essentially nothing. I mean between POTBS, DCUO, Aion and LOTRO, my time is pretty stretched out as it is.

The thing that even some of TERA's biggest fans are saying is that if you are gonna play at all, do it ASAP while there are still other people doing the leveling content, before(/in case) it dies. Apparently you can get to max level very quickly and because it is P2P many people are gonna speed level and quit within the free month or only subscribe for a few months then quit.

The other issue is that NA and EU have different publishers and apparently the EU customers get treated like shit in comparison to the NA version of the games whos pubs are actually related to the devs.

I'm just sticking with TOR for now in the hope that it really will improve cos like the guy in the video said (Weird to hear a Northerner on youtube) there a big risk of getting burned when buying a new MMO these days and the money for buying a new 1 could be spent on 3 months of sub instead and the server transfers etc should be here by then.

10? You're being generous. I would say 8-9.

I'm playing it, its an excellent game and I love it.

The big problem is the aforementioned race of sexualised children that I cannot stand and many of the players who play them. The chats get so bad at primetimes when someone mentions them and the sh**storm starts again. Every few hours. And it goes on for like 30 minutes if you're lucky.. you get the people who poke fun, the people who make valid points about them and the people who attack and the weaboo's that rise up to defend them.

Its not hard to understand that just because a line in a book says 'they are 50 years old on average' or whatever that does not take away form the fact that they are blatantly sexualised children. It doesn't matter if you dress up your 9 year old in 'grown up' clothes and call her 'a big girl'. Its still freaking creepy and wrong.

They just don't get it. Apparently its ok as long as a line in a book says they're adults 'for their kind'. I'm surprised the censoring didn't go much further.
I'm not seeing the "Sexualized children" thing: Yes, they wear skimpy, revealing outfits, but I get a "cute, playful Innocence" vibe from that instead of a "Sexual" one (When's the last time you've seen a KITTEN wear clothes?). From my own experiences growing up, I find little kids have a pretty strong aversion to clothing.

I've been playing Tera since CBT3 and like it so far.
Combat is much more dynamic and engaging than in most other MMOs. Played Vindictus? - It is little bit like that just in an open world environment.
The questing however is more traditional and repetitive. Most quests are simple kill X monster or get x items quests. From time to time you encounter a cool exception (e.g. you get 3 lists, each list describes a place and a NPC which you can't mark on the map. You then have to locate the NPC with the given hints and use an item on them to remove their disguise and fight them). But that is rather rare. Quest are presented in the same old fashioned way with a pop up and block text. Which is kinda hard to get into after SWTOR. (I usually don't bother reading the stories...)
It is theme park MMO so you get story quests that guide you through the world until you reach the current end of the story. Cutscenes in these story quest are nicely done but the synchronisation and subtitles are dreadful.
The game does not feature predetermined factions. The players create guilds and then fight for supremacy. The ever changing guild landscape keeps it fresh and entertaining. There is political system where player can reach certain positions of power within the game but so far I haven't seen it in action.
The game is powered by UE3. It therefore looks rather nice and given a good rig also runs very smooth even with larger crowds.
The game world seems big enough. So far I've only been on Arun which is one of the two available continents and I've only seen about half of that and I think it is big.
It is not really a grinder in the sense that you need a lot of time to play. People reached the level cap (60) within the first week of playtime. I've probably played a little bit more than average but not too extreme and easily reached level 42 within the first week.

The game features are rather sexualized design especially for the Castanic race. There is a remodel feature in the game in case someone is not too fond of an armour design he may chose to change it to another one of the same armour type.
As for the Elin controversy I would say most people who argue against them exaggerate the issue. The Elin outfits (mostly robes) got altered for the western release. Usually the panties got replaced with hot pants and an shirt was added to cover the belly button. But most of the outfits (heavy and light) were more on the cute than sexy side to begin with.
All animation sets of the Elin also indicate that they are supposed to be considered cute more than sexy.
And to pick up the statement that was made on the Poporin in this thread: It is kinda funny to kick a BAM (Big-Ass Monster) or player (PvP) with a little girl.
(Note: I'm playing a Castanic)

I think it is one of the better MMOs out there.

To give a little background I've played:
Ragnarok Online (~1 year)
Lineage 2 (CBT, OBT and ~ 3 years P2P)
World of WarCraft (~1 Week)
Final Fantasy XI (1 day...)
EverQuest 2 (~3 Months)
Pirates of the Burning Sea (~3 Months P2P, from time to time since F2P)
Star Trek Online (~2 Months)
Warhammer Online (~2 Months)
APB: All Points Bulletin (CBT only)
Final Fantasy XIV (CBT and ~1 Month stretched across the F2P phase for costumers)
Rift (CBT only)
Star Wars: The Old Republic (~3 Months)
Vindictus (from time to time)
Tera (since CBT3)

I think the little kids are pretty cute especially some of the higher tier armour. I would probably play as one if I played that game.

However, that's not what bothers me. It's the thought of how creepy guys may see those characters. That's what makes me not want to play the game. /shudder/

Tried it out in beta, got about to level 15 with a warrior. Got bored and put it down.

Quests were worst kind of grind, competition over mobs got annoying, nothing really got me hooked into the game. Even the combat looks so-so, based on a bunch of interchangeable and boring skills. PvP looked like it would be a mess since larger races, and males, had larger hitboxes, meaning that the smaller races would be rolled as all-female. The class system had me disappointed, since it looked like any attempt to level a healer or tank would make simply slow down the grindfest to an excruciating crawl.

Played Guild Wars 2 beta weekend and found myself overwhelmed with options I wanted to pursue. Questing, WvW, and PvP all looked fun enough to dedicate myself to. I didn't get to see the instances, but from the videos they look interesting and challenging. Combat was simple and fun to learn, but looked difficult to master.

I've made my choice, I might try Tera again if it goes FTP, but I doubt I'll stay with such awful grinding and pidgeonhole classes.
