I actually have it downloaded on my iPhone, and I will read it as soon as I find the time. I have some other books to finish first though.

I just finished The Art of War by Sun Tzu and it was really good. It changed my perspective on a lot of things. After reading I wondered "Did anyone on The Escapist read it?" Basically, Did you read it and if so What did you think of it?
I have a copy by my bed, a brilliant read. Everything there makes you think "of course!..." Its all so obvious and yet so brilliantly put into words. It all makes so much sense when you look at it. its not like your just taking his word for it, its all masterfully reasoned and written. I like to see it as poetry as well as strategic mastery.

Aye, did, have the book on my shelf. Was a good read, but can't say it was really lifechanging. Mind you, I've read it when I was a kid, so a re-read might be due.

I started reading it a while back but got sidetracked by other things so i've pretty much given up on it. I did enjoy what I read though.

I have read it, and I enjoyed it a great deal. Sun Tzu is a pretty good philosopher, and "Art of War" is very open to interpretation. Also Sun Tzu is very good at organizing his points effectively.

I've read it. Loved it. Have a copy. Another favorite(and one you should check out) was Atlas Shrugged.

Yes I have read the book, I did it as a part of my English studies, after I had read it I found it to be one of the most brilliant books I have ever read.

I've read it, but all I took from it was the many, many dumbass mistakes my friends and I made during a Pathfinder game. If you run into a fight and leave your camp unguarded, you will get your shit stolen.

I have read it and found it fascinating, however I felt that due to its popularity, most of the lessons it teaches are now regularly used. So it's almost become a common sense thing.

The Prince by Machiavelli was harder to get my head round but that had some really great stuff in it.

I did try reading beyond good and evil by Nietzsche, I got to about the 3rd chapter and had to stop because I wanted to go back in time and beat the living crap out of him for being an egotistical sod.

People, you can find it on Project Gutenberg [http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page]. The site compiles works that are public domain. Many of them are made to be E-reader ready, and almost all that I've seen have at least a PDF form. Have a feast of knowledge.

Yup. It was okay.

The basic message seems to be, "In order to be successful you have to be a duplicitous bastard."

He was probably on to something there.

I sat down to read it once. But I got the impression it was just military tactics that, whilst very interesting, wasn't really much of a good read.

Knowing now that it's got philosophy and general life advice, I'll tackle it again

Never read the whole thing, but I have a thing on my iPod that has around half of it, the full version costs money.

And the library never has it in.
I have the full iPhone version for free. Just took a bit of searching.

OT: Read parts of it, not all of it.

My brother came across a Tzu/Machiavelli/Clausewitz compilation in a book store one summer.
I was hooked on Total War games and had a lot of time on my hands, so I read all three books in less than 2 days...

On War by Clausewitz was the most compelling to me, but 18th-19th century warfare has always intriguied me.

Machiavelli's book, which I believe was also called "The Art of War" didn't appeal to me very much, atleast compared to the others. Mainly because I don't like his political ideal. He may be very right, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

The original "Art of War" is wonderful in that it's not just about warfare, but can, as mentioned by others, also be applied in so many situations in modern society. The man was a genius and it'd hurt noone if rulers followed his ideal more closely.
