I personally find it hard to understand how people manage over a thousand posts at all. I literally have nothing better to do all day and am still miles off that marker, though I don't really find post counts to be particularly important or informative.

That doesn't happen...
:p

I think it's just because we feel the need to.
Also, they're are a lot of people who have under that, it's just that you don't notice those people because of their low post count.

Back when I browsed the forums starting in 2008 it seemed like everyone had way less posts.
2 years ago people had less posts then they had 2 years ago?

I think that's a big part of your question.

But in 2008 they didn't have rapid post games, or the FlamewarReligion and Politics forum, or the HuggyFeely forum.

Also you've got more people. You probably know more words than you did two years ago...It's just how it is.

The longer a community exists, the bigger the numbers become. More subforums, more users, more threads, more posts. Make sense, no?

This is basically answered in the first post. The reason why people's post counts in general have exploded is because of the use of forum games and user groups being included in post counts. So yes while 1k was the big thing in 07 and then 5k in 08-09 everything from then on has been 10k.

I believe the main reason for this is the inclusion of posts in User Groups and the large participation in the Forum Games section, making it really easy to gain thousands of posts in a short space of time.

I'd wager that at least half of my 20,000+ posts are in User Groups.
Damn, you're right - only 6190 of your posts are in actual forums, according to the secret methods that I will not tell anyone on this thread no matter how nicely they ask :p

Really? Because my investigations reveal 6632 forum posts :/

I'm looking at "The Escapist > Profiles > TimeLord > Posts > Recent" and it says 6632 results that are forum posts.

As TimeLord said straight off the bat, User groups etc. Push many people's post count up a ton. Forum games are fun and your post count goes up by fifty without you even noticing.

I have a tiny post count because I only post when I feel I have something to add to the conversation, for every post I have there are at least three I have written and deleted because they weren't worth posting.

It changes depending on who's viewing it and what forums they are allowed to view. Since SirBryghtside isn't a PubClub member nor a mod, he can't see any of your posts in the PubClub forum and therefore they don't get added to the number of forum posts on his profile he can see. Or that's how I suspect it works anyhow.

Also note that that count probably leaves out locked and deleted threads for the same reason, so if anything you've made more forum posts than just that.

If a person has 20000 posts and is not a mod then I won't treat them any differently than someone who has got 500.
Why would you treat mods differently?
When a user has a shitty day and you call him out on being a dick for something they do, he can get annoyed, that's it.

When a mod has a shitty day and you call him out on being a dick for something they do, they can put another mark on your profile.

Mods are only human, i'm tentative around ones with some power :p
It's never a good idea to step foot near the post button as a regular user when your intoxicated/in a bad mood, let alone the moderation controls after a shitty day. However having said that, attacking a mod is still a punishable offence. So it's kinda a double-edged sword. If there was an incident where I was called upon to moderate after a crap day at work and/or in a foul mood. I'd consult another moderator.

Posts count in user groups? Wow I had no idea, that explains a lot. I've never really posted in a user group before.

I sorta have noticed the post count being more around the 1000 mark these days.

I haven't noticed and don't care all that much. I know roughly 100 or so of my posts come from a short stay in Forum games. Maybe another couple hundred came from User Group posts. My posting in all aspects has died down a bit recently, and I don't think I want to force another 7000 posts just for a change of title. I don't even know if I'll stick around long enough for that.

With everything said, yeah Forum Games. Those shoot your post count up really quickly. I do hope that some are't doing it just for the sake of a high post count, but that's not really my business.

Almost all of mine are due to groups, so take that as you will. I'm guessing that's the real thing, cause I was surprised myself when mine got this high

Despite new rules saying that you have to post stuff with more than one word or high content, many people still post without actually saying anything, no matter how many words there are in their post. Also, people who have been around longer will have built up their post count over time (myself not included, regardless of anything, my post count will always be lower than Atlantis..) and more people take part in RP games in that part of the forum.

I thought user group posts didn't count towards your post total?

Anyway, a bit more on topic, even tough I've been here a bit, I don't post all that much since I tend to not find posts I want to comment on and because the boyfriend is on more than me.

EDIT: Woo! 3400th post!
