Has Extra Credit replaced Zero Punctuation as this site biggest video series?

This one speaks the truth!

But yeah, it's already been said; ZP videos, though funny, provoke very little in the way of discussion, and thus there is less to comment on. I am delighted at the addition of "Extra Credit" to the Escapist, however - I admire how passionate those individuals are about gaming and its value as a medium. It's literally a perfect fit for a website such as the Escapist.

I don't think it'll ever be more popular than Zero Punctuation. ZP can be watched by anyone that plays games, it's mostly pointless jokes, but for ExC you have to be a bit more educated.

I prefer ExC by far though ^_^

Personally, I like both. They are different shows. You can't even compare them in my mind. Which is more popular? I don't know. Nor do I care. As long as they both continue putting out new content, I am happy and will continue to watch both.

Which do I like more? Yes

They're two different directions. ZP is all about the beating the snot out of the game for its flaws and focusing on them, ignoring the majority of the good points (Assassin's Creed was the last game that I played that Yahtzee reviewed so that's about the only reference I have). Extra Credits is about the discussion of an aspect of gaming in general rather than about one specific game (usually).

I don't think it really matters who's the biggest video series. They're both still here.

The only reason EC gets more comments is because it acutally has some serious discussion value. ZP, well, ZP is nice to watch, but commenting on them just doesn't really serve any purpose other than to piss off his fanboys.
I suppose it would be like if Stephen Colbert gave way to Jon Stewart instead. You know?

I would say they're both popular, and they both do completely different thongs. Yahtzee comedic reviews on video games, while the Extra Credit people are doing videos on what matters in the game industry, and what can be changed. I, for oe, like and appreciate both.

To answer the question in the title, no. The thing is that the topics EC covers are a lot more discussion worthy than anything Yahtzee has to say. None of that is to say that EC isn't fucking awesome, and I anxiously await Thursdays as much as Wednesdays now.

The comments in EC is greater for the sheer reason that the topics in them have more discussion value than that of ZP, he meerly reviews games, which will gather same debate, where as EC is actually discussing the core issues of gaming.

Extra Credits contains very little profanity and isn't "overtly" funny like ZP is, hence I don't think it'll ever replace or surpass ZP as the Escapists premier video series. Still, I'm pretty sure that even if it does equal ZP numbers, most people will probably say "I watch both"

I see a *****, do you see a *****?

OT: I think Zero Punctuation definitely sees more traffic than Extra Credits. While there are more people commenting on an admittedly very good show, I think ZP gets a giant number of non-escapist users who just check out the site for him and him alone. Although I will admit, the cantankerous man with the yellow background may be due for a break. Not a permanent break mind you but I think a good two weeks off would do Yahtzee some good.

[sub][sub]Marmooset's comment reminded me that there will be no D&A this week :([/sub][/sub]

If the EC crew was using yellow wallpaper and little black spikey guys then I'd call them a rip-off. However, the EC guys are making some amazing material. Comparing them to ZP is like apples to oranges in my book. It has been gone over a million times whether or not Yahtzee is running out of material and I believe a lot of the consensus has been his work goes in waves. Some are better than others, the same goes for the EC crew. Also keep in mind Yahtzee has been going a lot longer than EC. Now will EC "replace" Yahtzee as this site's main draw? I doubt it. As I said, EC is fabulous but not everyone wants to hear a deep discussion on gaming culture.

I know for me I'm much more willing to reply to an EC video simply because they are thought provoking, whereas ZP is mindless fun. I watch and love both (Though Unskippable still beats ZP for me).
Actually, in one of the very first EC videos (it's not found on this site)the narrator says that he draws most of his inspiration from ZP.

OT: No, I doubt it. They're both good shows, but EC hasn't been around long enough to replace ZP.

I think the longer EC goes the more popular it becomes.
It's one of the few videos that have a reasoned debate on it, and it's sounded.

ZP is still fun to watch, but given the length it has been going...I'm surprised how good the videos have been.
Personally, I'd like to see him to more 'retro reviews', but that's just me.

This is going to be one of the biggest "no"s I'll ever say. *ahem*

No!

"It might be a fair contest since Extra Credit provides more issues that can be talked and debated over in the comments, but" stop there! No "but"s. This sentence is not just one little factor, it's absolutely the whole reason why EC has more comments. 100% the reason.

Another thing is that I don't at all think ZP is running "out of steam". Most of the time, it's just individual fans going through ruts of being tired of it. It's happened to me tons of times with various shows.

"...And thus my clarvoniancy was revealed"
I've heard it like, five times, but he always puts a little twist on it each time. It's a great running gag right now, because it's a running theme in the games right now!

"messes with the filing system."
I've heard that one... uh I don't remember ever hearing that one.

And finally: So far I have not been very impressed with Extra Credits. Maybe it's because I spend more time thinking about video games myself than you do, but he has yet to tell me aaaaanything I don't already know. Worse yet is the length. I can't watch an 8-minute games commentary video when there's only 2-minutes of actual games commentary, and the rest is filler.

"Sometimes, a video game makes you question your own being! Because sometimes games make you think about who you are, because games are an exciting new medium that can do a bunch of great things that other mediums can't!"

I mean come on, he has said different variations of "games are an exciting new medium" fives times more than Yatzhee has said "...And thus my clarvoniancy was revealed".

I.. completely agree with you. I could just say the same things you said, but that'd be just me doing the same thing I'm accusing them of doing, so I'll just leave it at that.

What bugs me the most really, is the dude explaining these fairly obvious things to us, in a somewhat condescending manner. Like if your mate suddenly started lecturing you, after 10 years of playing FPS games together, that the shotguns are actually most lethal at short range. I dunno why, but I somehow get that really smug vibe off 'him'.

What's the deal with the creators anyway. As far as I understand, one's an artist, one's a writer, and one's some kind of a frontman, who has a face you don't see, and a voice you can't hear.

Gah, I dunno. I guess I'll just be glad I'm not alone in not considering EC to be the next Messiah.

ZP is well known through out the gaming world, EC, I'm not so sure of...

Both are awesome shows though.
