I am a huge Muse fan, own every album etc, etc. I think it's good for a band to change their sound, lest they get stale, but songs like Undisclosed Desires and them putting songs on the *shudder* goddamn Twilight album is slowly leading me to think that the glory days of the sounds of Absolution are gone and that Muse are going mainstream. Whaddya think, Escapists?

Why do people start thinking that "BAD=MAINSTREAM"? I'm pretty sure Muse has been mainstream for a while.

Muse have near enough always been a pretty mainstream band. I mean my dad likes them, that speaks for itself.

Every indie yuppie and their dog has a Muse album.

Muse? You mean Radiohead Jr?

Hah.... all joking aside, they're still good - not AS good as they were before, but that seems to be the case with a lot of bands. I still love albums like Absolution and Black Holes, so I'm not complaining.

Eh...maybe.

Since they've been on the Twilight theme, every stupid teenage fangirl thinks they're cool, which doesn't make Muse bad, it just makes them more popular and that gets annoying.

I think they still sound great. And no I don't think they've "sold out" by going mainstream, which they have been for a while. Now Kings of Leon, on the other hand... that's a pretty good example of a band going mainstream and then losing touch with what made them good in the first place. Muse hasn't done that imo

Hey if you like them, you can like them.

The mainstream factor shouldn't stop you from listening to music you like

People who say that Mainstream music is bad are just idiots. God, I hate those people. Just because something is mainstream, does not make it bad. Halo is mainstream. Halo is not bad. Nor is Star Wars, which is mainstream (the films, at least). There are plenty of great mainstream things. Muse may be going slightly mainstream, yet they are still as awesome as ever. They still remain true to what made them great in the first place, and few bands can match the great guitar sounds and Matt Bellamy's somewhat unique vocal talents. Muse are still great right now, whether they've gone mainstream or not. That's all there is to it.

Shows how much I've been following them, I thought absolution and black holes was great, but I didn't even realize they had their new album out till a week ago. I don't particularly care for it, though I thought black holes was the one that made them mainstream, though absolution made a big splash too... everyone one thought they would be the next Radiohead or what not after those albums

Muse.. I loved them "Absolution" amazing album .
"Black Holes And Revelations" really good but got over played and kinda annoying after awhile you can guess why, (and i have go a problem with twilight, just all the girls that feel like no one knows what it is and have to explain it to you.)
"Origin of Symmetry" freaking fun!!!

Now "the resistance" I really dont want to say the band has gone mainstream i want to blame this album on the fact that muse self produced it and it really does not sound like them at all. Its like thay gave up on that really good sound they had going and put out an album of: everything youve listened to in the last 10 years.

mainstream yes it is. sucks no not at all.. its just not Muse..at all

Muse have been mainstream for a looooong time. They're still a great band, because a band doesn't magically get shit the more people have heard of them.

Just like a game doesn't get worse the more people play it. Unless it's Halo, apparently.

I hate it when people automatically associate "mainstream" with "bad". Saying that "It's popular now I hate it" in a desperate attempt to try and remain non-conformist isn't edgy and it isn't cool. It's idiotic and ridiculous.

Has Muse gone mainstream? I don't have a clue. I barely even know who they are. I'm not really into music. But don't ask whether they've gone mainsteam or not, ask whether you still like their music or not. If the answer is yes, why the hell does it matter if they've gone mainstream or not? If the answer is no, maybe you should accept that you just don't like them anymore and find another band to worship.

Popularity does not, EVER equal quality.

Kiefer, it matters because there are elitist indie music retard fans that consider THEIR musical tastes superior to everyone elses. I know this sounds harsh but i had so many friends like that at school... its very dissapointing. I like Muse by the way, they are great if a bit on the gay side.

What the hell is the issue with people and mainstream music? I mean, I don't like Muse at all, but the only thing that music fans should care about is the music itself. If it's good, it's good. If it's bad, it's bad. Being Mainstream isn't a con, it's just a background to the production. Which means absolutely jack shit about the quality of what you're hearing.

That's my rant for today.
