has the PS2 become nothing but history?

i have a ps2, and as i browse through best buy or wal mart, i'm disappointed to see that the only games that are out are wrestling games and hunting/fishing games (at least in the stores i've been in). The ps2 is a great console, and gave us many great games that flourished into series that have evolved into the new gaming consoles. i understand that the new consoles take precedence over past gen consoles for many legitimate reasons, but has there been a complete drop in interest in the ps2? has the ps2 been turned into a gaming system of the past where the only good games can be found at used game stores?

Yes...The only new titles for it are the rare JRPG, occasional licensed movie game, or a horrid port of a sports title's latest iteration.

Everyone else has more or less moved on.

But that fact that it's STILL getting game releases at all in 2011 speaks volumes about the success and popularity of the system.

I'll never get rid of mine. Hell, it's still hooked up.

Was the PS1 history after the PS2 was established? Yes.

That's just how it works in PS world...

Looking back on the PS2, it's sad that I see them selling at only around $60.00 at gamestop. Hell even this somewhat new game "Aragon's Quest" is worth more then Shadow of The Colossus, Soul Reaver 2, and GTA: Vice City combined
Thats just insulting :/

Shadow of the Colossus is worth its waight in gold
GTA Vice City is worth its waight in silver
and the other game I didnt play xD

Edit: Hell prob more ya I love those2 games big deal wana fight about it? >_>

Yea...I thought they stopped making PS2 games, I guess that is my answer haha.

That is just how new technology works, something else comes out and the old thing becomes obsolete.

Its a real shame because there are quite a few titles on the PS2 which a really, really liked;
Ace Combats 4, 5 and Zero
Time Splitters: Future Perfect
Killzone
The older Dynasty Warrior games (before it changed (for worse I feel) on the new consoles)

I would have been tempted to go for the PS3 rather than the 360, but I liked the titles on the 360 more. To date, I don't really think there have been any titles on the PS3 that would really made me want to go for it.

A good number of my mates still have theirs and it gets brought out once in a while.

Um, yes? It's 11 years old. It's had a marvelously good run, but it's been time to move on for a while.

It´s the best-selling console of all time, its longevity speaks volumes about its popularity and in my humble opinion it´s the best console of all time. NES,SNES and Mega Drive are all close seconds though.

It´s a pity to see it fade away, but that´s the natural order of things. I still have my ps2 plugged and i still play it (almost as much as my ps3).

And thus you see half the reason why Sony renigged on backwards compatibility for the ps3.

Anyway, I do seem to recall something similar occuring with the PSX-PS2 transition. Hell Im half tempted to dump 30$ on a ps2 simply because my ps3 doesnt have backwards compat and there is still at least one game (if not more)I must play for ps2.

I didn't even realize that they still brought out games for the PS2. The last game I brought brand new was Persona 4 about 2 years ago. However, I did pick up Silent Hill 3 for £4 second hand last Tuesday. I was so happy! But yeah, my PS2 is still hooked up in my room :)

The industry sees it as dead because most developers have moved on to the 7th generation consoles. It was great while it lasted, but nothing lasts forever.

For me the PS2 is dead, not just because i bought a PS3 on launch day, but because that PS3 is backwards compatible. That and the PS2 i had was starting to show signs of fatiuge.

EDIT: If youre wondering, my PS3 can play PS1 discs too.

Now? Yes. But the system had an amazing run and life. It had games made for it for 10+ years. That speaks volumes.

That would make a copy of SotC worth about $6,100.00 USD. Probably a bit of an overestimate. Good game though.
