I dont know about anyone else, but all this PC stuff is driving me nuts. It also seems to work only one way: For example if i called some the N word I'd be charged for racial abuse, but if they called me a honky...well its another matter.

Not long ago here in britain Jade Goody was called a racist for calling an Indian woman "Shilpa Poppudom" now, im from cornwall so if you called me "James pasty" I'd laugh at you.
Shilpa replied with the insult "Your white trash"

Now that is racial slur.
And yet JADE was the racist and shipla wasnt...

Or am i wrong?

The line with racism has always been a blurry one... its best to tread with caution around topics like this because people interpret things differently and some things which offend others will not ellicit a response in someone else.

There is no clear cut definition... so you're just going to have to be cautious.

it was just a question. i have no racial hate to any one.
I suppose the way you can look at it is now the table has turned. once the minority was ignored and looked over, i suppose its just our time. What goes around comes around and all that.

But white trash, in my mind, is not about anyone being white, but being trash. I doubt she called Goody that because she was white. More likely she called her that because she was a horrible, horrible person. She was.

I honestly DONT like Jade Goody, yeah she got cancer and that sucked for her and her family, but honestly why the hell was she famous? For her lack of intelligence? For getting her tits out on telly?
The fact that she got such media attention is appaling. British media is a gutter these days. Not all, but the majority.
I dont know why her family whored her out like that. I wouldnt do it. Even if i had some new disease which made me purple and glow.

It's the oldest, most childish thing ever, "The rules are different for me" For god's sake, it's not OK to fight fire with fire. Apparently, we have to lie back and get burnt because someone might get offended? it's bull! I mean, don't get me wrong, if there's one thing i cannot abide, it's a racist, but yet if we're all campaigning for equality, we have to be equal in ALL aspects, otherwise it's just not playing fair.

Also, racism, I stopped going for everyone can be the target for racism a while ago, apparently it just doesn't happen.

Ignoring the fact that being allowed to say "honky" isn't equivalent to generations of slavery, you've got it upside down. Racial slurs are only unacceptable when they have power. Calling a person from Cornwall pasty isn't bad because people there's little existing racism against Cornwallians. By conrast, black people (and many other minorities) are still very much discriminated against: a black person is demonstrably more likely to be convicted of a violent crime than a white person (whether or not they're more likely to be guilty is a separate issue and one I won't touch with a pole). If you dismiss a black person with a racial slur, some people will think of them as less than fully human, and that's what causes the outrage.

In a perfect world without racism, racial slurs would be meaningless, but we live in this world and discrimination is absolutely not a thing of the past.

Who honestly cares, don't really know to nmuch about Shilpa, but Jade is was a bigotted, moronic irritation who only served to highlight the depravity of the UK. Hell if I'd known about it at the time I'd probably have rung in to complain in the hopes of getting her of the tv.

As you, I feel sorry for her and her family that she died. But that doesn't change the fact that she was a horrible person who annoyed me greatly. I'll never understand why people completely devoid of talent can get famous like she did. It disgusts me a bit.

how the hell can you take this situation and use it to imply that PC has gone mad?
PC - political correctnes, an idea founded on the ideal that the world would be a nicer place if we called everyone nicer names.
i'm going to be blunt, I don't see how getting offended by certain words even happens.
but i can see that if it does offend people, changing the word is a solution that really only offends those arrogant enough to believe the language of a country should revolve around themselves.

i could offer you a thousand places where perhaps PC has gone too far, but it will always be something all people should be proud to know it exists.
just a few generations ago, people said, and actively thought that white people were better then black people. now we live in societies that make sure this doesn't happen. and that is easily worth the inconvienience of changing a few words.
