"Oh, sparks. Pretty."
That's a pretty dumb thing to do, but I don't think someone who does it necessarily deserves to die.

A quote springs to mind:

"You shall know a true genius by this sign: all the dunces will be in confederacy against him"

Can't remember who said it, but it's pretty much what I think

I never said anyone deserved to die. I'm just supporting your argument.

However, making retarded choices nowadays probably won't get you killed.
Isn't that a good thing?
Only for the individual. For the species it's generally a bad thing, unless they actually learn.

In my opinion, if you ignored all of the health and safety warnings (that society throws around like confetti) and manage to eviscerate yourself with a chainsaw, you deserve to bleed out.
Just quoting myself here, to say that I retract my statement. They don't deserve to bleed out, no.

However, I do think that perhaps they deserve to be ridiculed for such a thing.

Because the ratio is going from 3-1 Smart to Moron to 1933813281328-1 Moron to Smart. You may ask me "Snuggles, where do you sit on the chart?" Well sir, I sit in the middle.

I know I'm going to be flamed for this, but I'll say it anyway.

I put it down to the large Evangelical anti-science movement in America.
Damn straight.

In the US, at the least, our entire culture is centered around being dumb. It's really kind of depressing when you think about it, but almost all of the icons and common names are either complete idiots or people who have contributed little to nothing to society, aside from being wealthy.

The popular culture in America is all about hedonism, embracing the pleasures of the flesh. We exult those who support that, and who make escaping from reality that much easier, while completely ignoring, if not outright disparaging those who are actually making the world a better place. I don't understand it myself, but that's what most people seem to like.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because the average person is stupid. And as people don't like to feel inferior, they want to hold up as their heroes people they know they can be equal to, if they just get that lucky break. They don't need any real work or natural ability. They simply need to get lucky and they'll be a millionaire.

But do you think smart people would reproduce with people they see as "retarded"?

From where you're concerned, it's really a non-issue.
Whether or not they do isn't even significant. The problem is that you've got more and more people who are living accustomed to having everything provided for them; everyone's getting lazier and lazier. Humanity as a whole is suffering, not just individuals.

Jealousy is harsh. People want what they can't have, and if they struggle to get it and fail, they hate it instead. Its a nice spiral
I actually think this is true. Knowledge is power, to some extent or another. People without knowledge want to maintain their ego, so they mock/look-down-upon those who have what they don't have. Denialists essentially

Ex:

Scientist: "No, sir, you simply do not understand my theory. See, if you look at the elec..."

IQ80 guy: "No you listen to me. Hahah.haa *burp*..you don't know anything!"

Scientist: "Wait...WAT"

IQ80 mob: "Wow, what a jerk. He thinks he's so .. 'GREAT' and everything. What a joke! Let's get him!"

If you were right, there would be one smart person every 276 years, assuming a population of 7 Billion. You might want to ratchet the hyperbole down a bit.

Idiots will be our downfall..
There will always be a fine balance of both "smart" and "idiots". Even if the balance gets uneven, the smart people will try to get smarter to balance this out naturally.

The name of this theory 'escapes' me...

Well I dont think it is quite like it was when the world and goverment were ruled by religion and they executed anyone of intelligence if they had an original or intelligent thought as being heretics, but...

I will say that our world does seem to be rewarding mediocrity and punishing originality far more than I would have ever liked to see in my lifetime.

So we're equating intelligence with a good work ethic, now?

There always has been, and always will be, people who are content with what they can get without effort and people who will strive to create and achieve. I don't see how this impacts humanity as a whole.

A little while back, some of you may recall, a very intelligent young woman stepped onto a TV quiz show and scored an insanely high score at an insanely tough quiz, shortly after you was bombarded by threats, insults, and so on.

Why? Because she was intelligent? Because she has a very large potential?
Now let's move on, now we look at Jade Goodie (NO, STOP, STOP, STOP, THIS ISN'T A JADE GOODIE HATE THREAD), after throwing some rather nasty insults, she comes back with cancer, then suddenly, the women who everyone ABSOLUTELY HATES, is popular because of this.

She, god rest her soul, never really did anything intelligent to earn fame, but she is covered in roses and choclates, and a over-achiever is treated like the scum of the Earth?

I don't mind those who arn't intelligent, but a few decades ago those who where intelligent where respected, as where the dim, now for some reason the intelligent are beginning to become hated, but why?
There are these two things which most people contain, jealousy and laziness. These idiots, who dislike intelligent people are simply jealous and are too lazy to actually go obtain intelligence in the real world.

Jade Goody became famous because of a, now somewhat dull, show called Big Brother which people go crazy for and again some people are jelous because she's famous. It's all mixed feelings.

There is a worship of stupidity that seems to have been on the steady rise since at least the 90s. I blame the fact that most western cultures measure success with how much money you make, and not what you may have contributed to the world to make it. Part of it is also the 'coolness' factor of what they did to get rich. Therefore, Bill Gates is a geeky little git who needs to be taken down a peg, while Paris Hilton is a bonafide celebrity who deserves praise for doing absolutely nothing but getting drunk and making sex tapes before devoting her life to producing high grade shit.

Personally if someone who is proudly ignorant doesn't like me because I take the time to know what I'm talking about, I don't give a shit. I have no patience for stupid people, period. The library was open for everyone, so as far as I'm concerned, it's their own fault they didn't make more of an effort to learn a few things to know what I'm talking about.

Anyone who thinks being loud is as good as being right is probably stupid. Just a heads up.

The world has come to hate alot of things, be very ignorant and very stupid.

Anyone remember abraham biggs from last year? The guy who comitted suicide on a live webcam feed, with about 900 spectators and a chat room to go with.

Most of them were egging him on, typing stuff like "HAHA YOU DID THIS B4 AND IT WAS A FAKE"
Eventually he swallowed a full container of medication, and lay down. After about twenty minutes he stopped breathing and some people were saying "Omg, someone call the cops" But most were saying "FAKE"

It took TWELVE hours for someone to alert the mods, whereupon they traced his location and the police arrived and pronounced him dead, then put the lens cap on the camera.

He was nineteen. Far too young to lose life.

Many people on the internet think suicide can anwser whatever problems they have. They think its just the easy way out...

But ive noticed most people who dont use the internet dont have the same view.

This is just one example of how the world has dumbed down and become ignorant.

They egged him on. Now hes dead.

And yes, I think the jade goodie scenario was retarded. And while she had cancer she married a guy and now hes left to raise two kids on his own.

just becuase shes dead doesnt mean we cant say "That was bitchy of her"

What the idiots don't realise is we're going to be putting drugs in their methadone to make them sterile. (it may have been defeated before but it will come around again...even if i have to put it in myself)

No one is ever too young to lose a life. Some people are simply to weak to handle and deserve life. I genuinely hate suicidal people, simply because they are *completely* inapable of seeing the good things that are out there for them and the options that are left. Suicide is never the answer. It's the cowards way out.

If it's Gail Trimble you're talking about, the reason for the hatred was due to a technicality that she hadn't actually left University, nothing to do with her intelligence.

As for hating intelligence, the day we come to treat intelligence like that will be the day of humanity's downfall.
