I can only wish, but the zombie craze will continue as long as lazy writers and developers need cannon-fodder enemies.

Wrong! They need to up the ante.

The Tank from the Left 4 Dead series is but the tip of the iceberg. We need escalation people!

It's coming close to burnout, and despite the fact that I consider the first three Romero movies to be my cinematic holy trilogy, I'm glad it is. I say it needs to go away for 10-11 years, then come back with something distinctive to refresh it again.
Similar opinion. I got bored of zombies by 2012. The last thing I played that involved zombies was Onechanbara Z2: Chaos, and it had more than just zombies to fight. My case does not help in that I watched a ton of zombie movies, old and new, between 2003/04-2010. Burn out happened with me real fast.

Which I'm super happy about because I for one still really like zombies.

I prefer walking zombeis, but there is nothing wrong with variety. I generally prefer unique take on zombies.

I like horde zombie games, like State of Decay. Yeah it had some running zombies, but it was mostly dealing with hordes of shuffle-fucks and the occasional unique zombie.

Left 4 Dead I will admit is okay, because its an FPS. 3rd person hacking/slashing doesn't work well with running zombies.
Tell that to Suda 51's Lollipop Chainsaw or Killer Is Dead (called Wires). Some zombies could run or were fast and agile; especially in Killer Is Dead. It worked fine in those games. The only time it didn't work was in Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, but there were lost of problem in this horrible spin-off.

This happens with every craze. For a while, it felt like every company wanted to make their own mmorpg to get in on that sweet wow money. Open world was the end all be all for a while, but it seems to slowly die down a little now. Building/crafting survival was huge after minecraft, but there aren't as many new ones coming out now. Same with zombies now.

Crazes come and go. Just make the best of it while it lasts, if one happens that you like.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I doubt it, zombies are just too useful. I mean they are a horde monster that can be mowed down without any moral conflict and they don't need any real motivation. I mean they are easier to use as enemies than wild animals since even wild animals have self preservation instincts.

Hard to say? Every time I've thought the Zombie craze was dying it just kept shambling on. That being said, we do seem to be hitting a lull in the craze.

The heck with that. Give me dancing zombies!

They just signed on David Fincher to direct World War Z 2. There's a whole bunch of upcoming zombie movies if you google "upcoming zombie movies".
Awesome. I loved WWZ and I didn't know they were making a sequel.

I agree the zombies have died down in popularity though. But that's how it works, it's a cyclical thing. They've been around forever but they always come back if you give them a new fresh spin. Like Romero in the 60s/70s and the 28 Days Later speedy viral zombies of the early 2000s. It's just a matter of time till somebody comes up with a fresh take on zombies.
Yeah, my guess is it's going to be 'intelligent' zombies that appear as normal people that are way off but still able to maintain a societal structure and satiate their appetite through planned organization. I think it would be cool if you had like this harrowing zombie dictatorship with only a few sane survivors left. :p

Anyways I still like zombies as a thematic device. It's been kind of overdone in the past but it definitely lead to quite a few gems and I think zombies and zombie related stories can still be taken in different directions. Pretty much any social ill can be projected onto them. :p

Like iZombie? The show at least, apparently the original was weirder.

When it comes to TV and movies I'm happy with what I have. I don't need more. I can watch Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, World War Z and all those fun little movies over and over without getting bored. As for games, well, I'm happy with Killing Floor. I know they're not zombies but, they're zombies. I'm more than happy to spend an hour or two blasting some brains out with friends in that.

Only seen the first series, it was ok.

It's about a woman who works in the morgue, who is secretly a zombie but apart from being pale nobody can spot anything that odd about her. She eats brains and gets memories and personality traits she uses to solve crimes, usually about how the brain donor died.

Has the Star Wars craze finally died yet?

I watched a film recently called 'The girl with all the gifts' which was a different take on the genre. Parts of it almost felt like a 'The Last of Us' reimagining, but was aight. Recommendable.

Look what horror stories a society tells, and you'll know what society is afraid of.

Vampires: fear of sexuality and of disease.

Werewolf: fear of people being dangerous (not a coincidence they were popular in medieval times, when riots of violence were common).

Zombies: fear of the masses, of not having your living space. The horror of our modern society with millions of people you meet in overcrowded cities.

There's one last zombie movie I'm waiting on, starring Martin Fucking Freeman, called Cargo [https://teaser-trailer.com/movie/cargo/].

It's based on this amazing short which was posted on YouTube as an entry to a film contest.

ive been a fan of zombies since seeing return of the living dead back in the 80's so more the merrier

that said its hard to use them properly as most filmmakers and game makers just use them as the main focus and reduce them to cannon fodder, the best films, etc use them as a background hazard with a theme and concentrate on the survivors
