Has there been a jrpg in the last 9 years that was not completely annoying?

Last Remnant was one of the few recent(ish) JRPGs that I really enjoyed. It's a bit awkward to get used to the mechanics which are a bit too chance-based for my taste, but at least it tried something new with the old JRPG formula. I can't say they were 100% successful because the game has its share of issues, but I found it a breath of fresh air combined to the average JRPG. I'm secretly hoping for a sequel that works out the kinks in the system, it could be great.

I don't really care about JRPG's and I haven't cared about them for as long as I can remember.

My advice for a go-to JRPG is Final Fantasy VI - try to get your hands on the original SNES (or a ROM), but take the GBA remake if need be. Yes, it's old, but it has a solid (and not convoluted!) story, memorable characters and excellent tunes.

Ummm ever heard of Super Robot Teisen OG Saga: endless Fronter?
Or any of the hand held Mario RPG's?
Golden Sun 1 and 2 were both awesome as well.

What did you think of Davide's accent? Didn't that annoy a bit? It annoyed me a bit.

OT: As someone early said, Final Fantasy X. It annoys only slightly with the speed of which random encounters happen (I had 5 in about 50 seconds once) but apart from that, it doesn't annoy.

I'm just asking because when I was a kid the only rpgs out their were from japan, but it just seems that lately they have been getting lamer and more annoying. I'm not trying to start a fight just give me an example of a newer on that is fun and has a good story.
My question to you is if there has been a WRPG ever that wasn't so boring I wanted to kill myself.

See what I did there? Your question is too open ended and opinionated from the get-go.

And for the record, KH is a JRPG, and it isn't annoying. The Last Remnant wasnt annoying, so many games weren;t annoying.

Etrian Odyssey is pretty good if you're ok with turn based combat. Though you could consider it a WRPG.

The Persona series has saved the JRPG genre for me. The combat is pretty good, the dungeons are well laid out, but the games shine in their story lines. The characters seem very human, especially since you have to fight their "shadow", which reveals their deepest faults, character defects and fears. Also, the game makes you feel like your main character has a personality without saying a single word.

Actually I loathe the FF series except for Tactics and I tend to hate most of the Jrpgs. That said, I would suggest Disgaea 1 and 2 since they seem to realize they are in a Jrpg and have fun with it. Just be ready to lose over 600 hours of your life.

I found the characters in Persona 4 really annoying compared to 3, and the whole "Accept your bad side to win" thing got old half-way through the first time.

I did find Persona 3 really good, outside the combat the characters are pretty realistic though it's pretty much a high-school anime without a lot of the cliches. Not to say Persona 4 wasn't like that, I just found 4's story and characters annoying.

Look I'm not so thick headed and old that I can't appreciate a good game but because I no longer have the time to sift through all the crap I wanted to hear what fans of the genre thought were the best ones. I am not a jrpg fan but there were ones that I liked.

Technically not cheating: Skies of Arcadia: Legends. Fucking awesome.
oOh, and the Golden Sun trilogy. Other people have mentioned ToS already too, but that also gets my vote.

Wild Arms 2/3, The sonar system takes some getting used to but with the Gamefaqs maps it isn't too bad. They have a bit of a stranded story but has a six shooter influence that's pretty unique. The difficulty curve is a bit jumpy but not too bad.

WA2 just got rereleased on the PSN and 3 may be a bit harder to find but gamestops usually sell them for about $5. So pick 'em up if you can.

Also The Digital Devil Saga series, Pretty much FF10 with eating people and demons.
