Nope. I did download the demo for Valkyira Chronicles based on that episode, though.

Never got round to buying it.

There's games I've bought because I heard of them in a ZP review, but not because of his comments. When Braid came out in the Valve Indie sale I recognized it and got it. I also bought Brutal Legend recently and anticipated a good snarking from Yahtzee. I think he's a good reviewer, he typically takes a good critical approach but instead of presenting a balanced view of his games he drudges up as much nit-picks as possible.

Now on the other hand, I've seen a couple movies because Movie Bob gave them good marks, and Drag Me To Hell and District 9 turned out to be some of my favorite watches this summer. Zero Punc is entertainment framed as a review, Escape To is review framed as entertainment IMHO

His opinions on Alone in the Dark actually had me intrigued, not because he hated it, but because he said that there was so much wasted potential for good ideas. I still haven't played it but I am a little interested nonetheless.

I don't really watch Zero Puncuation for a legit review, I watch it mostly for entertainment purposes with a slight review in it.
this is pretty much it I try and make my own decisions for games as his tastes vary greatly from mine.

I dunno... As many others have said,ZP is not exactly an accurate reviews - more of a comedy show. I did buy Psychonauts, because not only Yahtzee, but everyone and their dog praised it. But i don't think any games intrested me because of his bile parades.

His review of Brütal Legend, while hateful, has somewhat intrigued me. I played the demo and found it to be quite lacking, but when he said that the rest of the game isn't really like the demo, that perked my interest. I haven't played an RTS in years, nor am I a big fan of the genre, but maybe it's time for me to get back into it, and what more unique way than with a Tim Shafer game?

lol i'll lucky in that i haven't got any games that yahtzee hates (maybe with the exception of mercenaires 2). the games i enjoy (assasins creed, CoD4, GTA 4 are all ones which he has let pass without anything too major to say). although yuo watch him for comedy, not full reviews.

Well his reviews are actually comedy. But seriously he can make better points then some reviews. Then again I never listen to reviews, not Yahtzees, IGN, Gamespot or any other review. Reviewers are to often wrong, they get caught up in hype and some apparently take bribes. I play demos and/or try games to make my own opinion before I buy them. They release so much shit (half-games included... all in the name of DLC) these days.

I typically won't bother with a game if Yahtzee brutalizes it.. Most of gaming is made or broken with Yahtzee's reviews.. I find it to be an effective system, if the game is a complete pile of shit with no redeeming qualities I won't bother. If he gives the game reasonable review, ie piece of shit fertilizing daisies, then I'll prob give it a look at. However, if he uses the words "is a good game," I'll go get it and play it. Assuming they have it for xbox.. Or it'll run on my pc.. Someone send me a PS3 and a DS.. None of that psp bull shit though.. That's for retards..

Geez, no need to take it so seriously guys. Yahtzee does review for comedy but his reviews still have merit.
I agree.

But, no, I haven't considered buying any because he disliked it.

Yahtzee's reviews do a great job at displaying the various aspects of the games (through comedy) but i wouldn't base a buy simply because "Yahtzee said it's cool" (often i have to supress my angry shouting/hysterical laughing at the screen because my dog starts barking at me).

ZP is usefull, great mind you, but Yahtzee throwing poo at every game sacrificing the actual critical aspect for comedy potential does put a giant, flashing question mark at the end of every video.

TL;DR -> No, but it does give you an overall picture of the game you would like to buy.

I never buy or rent games based on reviews.

It doesn't matter if the critic is reviewing for IGN, GI, NP, GT, and especially GS (correctly guess the acronyms and you win a large hadron collider), when you watch/read a review, you're getting that person's opinion on a game. If all you're looking for is an opinion, you're better off just asking someone you know who has played it.
If you're just looking for a run-down of a game, that's fine, go look up a review. But if you need a simple "good or bad" review to justify your purchase, then that just takes all the enjoyment out of life doesn't it?

Who knows? You might actually like/hate a game that a particular website or magazine despise/loves. I've heard nothing but bad things about Killer7, but I think it's fucking awesome. I've heard nothing but good things about RE5, but I think it's one of the worst games of all time.

Play and enjoy the games you want to play and enjoy people. Just because someone else hates a game you like (or vice versa), you shouldn't let it get to you. Your opinion is your opinion and that's that.

OT, no.

Umm his review of it never sparked interest in buying games, but when he reviews a game I have never heard of than I might take a gander at it.

I look to Yahtzee for comedy. Sort of like Mitch Hedberg, but with video games. He points out the obvious in games and cranks on them.

I definitely have been tempted, a time or two, to go out and buy a game simply BECAUSE Yahtzee hated it...or at least, because he seems to have a rather opposite view to me. Things he describes sometimes as boring or that he doesn't like can often be things I do....so I get sold on the game because it seems to contain so many elements I like!

i bought Painkiller on the strength of "Shurikens and lightning- this could only be more awesome if it had tits. and was on fire".

which is a phrase that (somehow) has made it to my place of work.
some of his reviews i've watched before buying a game that i wanted and some i have watched for games i already owned.
some times i find myself going "i'm not going to buy that cos yahtzee said [[insert ZP style putdown here]]"
adn there are a few that have made it onto my "buy it when i see it cheap" list based on some of his offhand comments about some feature of the game - Prototype for example.
