I actually see Yahtzee's reviews as actual reviews, sure they're hilarious but it actually mentions bad points about games. Something a lot of other reviews seem to forget, they just tend to tell you a bit of the story, tell you a bit about the graphics, interesting voice actors that feature in the game for 30 seconds and that the studio is hard at work with the sequel of which they truly believe it will remove the few gameplay issues they will not cover in the review beyond this mentioning because you should just get the game.

To get back to the question, I've never bought a game Yahtzee hated, but that's mostly because I tend to be very picky about what I play and most of the games coming out these days are crap.

I don't really watch Zero Puncuation for a legit review, I watch it mostly for entertainment purposes with a slight review in it.

If I want an actual review to see if a game is good or not, I'll go to IGN.
That. Most of the times. If Yahtzee approves a game I am interested in though, I buy it without thinking twice.

I love ZP to pieces, cracks me up every Wednesday, to me he isn't really losing the touch at all xD

However, just because I keep laughing it up every Wednesday doesn't mean I agree, in some cases I haven't, nor ever will, try a game he reviews, which makes it a bit sad, as it's fun having played one so you see what he means. I tried Prototype after watching the review, and... I liked it, really, maybe the feeling of being able to violently toss anyone around at others, "eat" them and copy them, etc. was the big thing, as well as wild, fast running...

Anyway, I don't go "Want it" or "Don't want it" because of ZP, but it does give me -some- idea on what a game is like, obviously.

IGN is the worst review site in on the net. It's bias and schizophrenic.

I don't play nearly a game a week so I couldn't possibly try out everything he reviews. However, he usually calls games on stuff that I noticed as well, so yeah I sometimes take his opinion seriously. I think the only games I own that he's reviewed are Fallout 3 and Fable, and he gave them good reviews (the bit in Fable about marriage was to the developers, since I can ignore it).

Let it be said that I also hate FPS games, Wii games that try to be taken seriously, quick time events, shitty stealth, and probably most every other archetype he pokes at all the time. I can deal with jrpgs to an extent, though I also hate FF7 fans and such.

The jokes he made with all that hatred convinced you to buy it?

I can think of several examples. Madworld, Sims 3, I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them. I didn't know that Mad World was a game with comedy where Greg Proops and John DiMaggio do commentary.

So I gave it a shot. Not saying I loved the game, but Yahtzee's hated sparked my interest to get it.

Has that happened to any of you?
I have watched about every ZP there is but none of Yahtzee's opinions have convinced me to buy or not buy a game.
No offense to the guy but I see him more as an entertainer than an actual critic, a damn good one though.
Still I have convinced myself to take everything, every reviewer has ever said with a big ol spoon of salt.
Even though critics are, professionals Its still just one persons opinion.
These are the same people who convinced me not to buy "Alone in the dark" and despite all the flaws (which hardly break the game) I really like the game.
So to answer your question, no.

For me, when I hear about a game, like many of you I go either "I'm gonna get that" or "not interested" So when I read or see reviews it basically gets whittled down into a few simple thoughts

If they like a game I'm gonna get: Cool
If they don't like a game I'm gonna get: Fine, won't stop me
If they like a game I don't care about: Good for them
If they dislike a game I don't care about: Everyones Happy

And like the point of this topic was, on very rare occasions someone may say or mention something that will actually spark my "not interested" thoughts into "maybe I'll look into that..."

I just think it's hilarious when Yahtzee is the one to do that.

That being said, thats how I feel about Dragon Age right now, everyone is saying it's really awesome, and the more I look at it, the more I might give it a shot.
